Winter League Game Week #4 - vs UCT (Mens 3s) - 2014 Season

10 May 2014
Venue: UCT
Opponents: UCT
Time: 15h00

The game started as if we had just picked up where we left off the week before. Good basics and solid ball pace made the difference between the UCT loafers and the men from mutual. 6Pack enjoying the game from the sidelines after tearing his ACL, but good news, his doctor has prescribed concrete pills. So hopefully he will be back after the mid-season break.

Let’s be fair, being a UCT student does imply that you would probably been out to some dodgy night club normally tiger tiger and eaten some dodgy food on the way home probably some dodgy street venders boerie roll (How we all miss those late night boeries outside Greenman – Yes Greenman, not Tinroof you youngsters). So being in the state their bodies were probably in it is natural to only wake up half way through the first half.

we had our opportunities and control most of the first half scoring with UCT having the odd quick counter attack. We were awarded the first shorty of the game but didn’t realise that Usain Bolt was their first wave. This guy was actually beating the ball to the top D that’s how quick he was. The second shorty we realised what we had to do and slipped the ball to Basil who as usual did not convert. There was no mistake with the third shorty thou, Tosser opting to beat the first wave and nutty the keeper with a powerful slap between his legs. Mutual 1 – 0 UCT.

Then UCT woke up, I felt like I was in hell on a beach as wave after wave of UCT attacks came at us which we fended off very well. Youngster keeping us in the game for most of the half, but one of their final attacks we all heard a whistle and stopped…well everyone except the striker with the ball. Luckily he was shit and missed, the ball almost going out on the sideline. Later in the day after about the third beer Shibby admitted to being the guy who whistled because he wanted the ball – This earned him dick of the day.

We went into the break leading by a slender 1 – 0 margin, the lead may not have been enough….

Just before the start of the second half UCT had a change of keepers., it seems like the guy who loses a bet gets to be keeper for the half.  But he was lucky as he barely even touched the ball once in the second half.

This half proved that we can park the bus and we can park it well. Hanging on to our 1-0 lead with the backs performing well. Klepto hassling his marked, Darrin getting physical with his…then his striker tried to retaliate by running straight at him. The guy must have been on crack because he missed him by a meter and ended up running straight into the “People’s Shoulder” which was attached to Tosser. Don’t worry he took most of the impact with his face and chest. He put on a bit of a show with a gymnasts dismount landing on his back, followed by a few choice words from Tosser that apparently was a retaliation. So the first two greens of the match were handed out. UCT for being a twat and Tosser for his filthy mouth.

After 7 minutes of standing on the side we reminded the umpire that we were infact still off the and she let us back on the field. Just in time for Justin to kick the ball and then tackle Demon with a Butch James shoulder…..he was then sent off.

So we carried on defending well, throwing overheads into space while the strikers countered and narrowly missed chances. One of the over heads was stopped above the UCT players head resulting in another green. So for the first time in the game we were a man up.

During one of our counter attacks, Basil tried to send a ball across the field which he mishit, lifting it into the air. Two silly UCT players decided to swing at the ball in the air. The umpire again reached for her cards and sent them both off. It was like she was in a rap video throwing money at strippers. She was making it rain green cards.

We found our second wind with Mullet and Shibby linking up well on the right hand side of the field. Speedbump having an absolute stormer in the front making it really hard for the UCT backline to deal with his pace. And Shooter and Speedo covering the middle well as a defensive unit with Sean pushing up to really block out the UCT players from getting to our 16.

We had our chances and plenty break-aways and just could not find the back of the net. We had plenty of space and linking nicely between halves and links but the gap between the links and strikers was just too far at times it was impossible to find the strikers. With basil's borrowed shinnies and Justin tackling his own players the result could not be anything more than settling for a 1 - 0 victory.

Final Score: 1-0

Man of the match went to Kelpto for a great debut and Youngster who saved 27 shots on goal.
Dick of the day was shared by Justin (for his card) and Shibby for that untimely whistle

A hard fought victory, so that’s two wins in a row for the Mighty 3s. Now we have to try keep that momentum going into our next fixture  vs Pinelands on Sunday at 13h30 playing at home.

Yours in awesomeness
Tosser

Winter League Game Week #3 - vs Durbanville B (Mens 3s) - 2014 Season

Ok we are back. Firstly, yes I know it has been a while since there has been anything on this blog. I blame doc, all my writing efforts have been focused on emails to Doc trying to get our GoPro sponsorship. That’s my story and im sticking with it.

Secondly, for those of you who don’t know as I did not really end off the seasons blog last year –
The Mighty 3s got promoted again which sees us now in M2,
Won Mutual Hockey Team of the year…..again
And to top it all off, we won Mutual Sport club team of the year at a fancy dinner.
Goood job lads.

Thirdly, I realise this is game week #3. No I will not be going back two weeks and posting gameweek 1 and 2. Just deal with it.

And after all those accolades, 60% of the team left because of other commitments. The strike pairing of Blake and Brown will be missed. Caveman and Tallis unable to commit to practices on a school night. Tooori ……actually I have no idea what happened to Tooori, he changed his cell number for the 4 time in a year and I cant get hold of him. Rhuan moving back to Bellville due to studies. But never fear, we got a bunch of newbies in. Well I don’t know if you can call them newbies with an average age of 30. But in the coming weeks they will be named and shamed on the blog.

04 May 2014
Venue: Mutual
Opponents: Durbanville B
Time: 12h00

Starting our team talk , our fearless leader made it clear to us that we shouldn’t get our hopes up and nor should we expect anything other than a snotklap. This may have been because he knows the boys from the Ville and on paper they seemed to be the more experienced team. This was based on the amount of knee guards their team was wearing.

The game started off well with good ball pace and the good basics .... then we made our first tackle and we got the ball. At was at this point that we realised that these hockey gods weren't so hot and can be tackled. We made a few solids passes and our confidence picked up. 5 minutes into the first half we realised that we had a chance. Some good passes and positive use of space and we were putting them under pressure.

We conceded the first short corner of the game. Durbanville opting for a variation slip. Their striker duffing his pass to the player charging at the far post, however this wounded rabbit bobbled its way past Tosser and Youngster and ended up in the back of the net. Mutual 0 – 1 Durbanville.

After that wake-up call we switched gears and besides a few counter attacked from Durbanville we camped in their half of the field for the remainder of the half.  Although unable to convert out possession into goals, this was still a huge confidence boost going into the second half.

A good team talk set the tone for the second half. We all went out there confidently, finding ourselves attacking more and putting their defence under a lot of pressure. We won a shortly and with stealth like sneakiness worked the ball back the player that is only known to us as Shibby. The slip coming from Tosser, 6Pack collecting the ball and showing great composure set up Shibby  to slot it in past the keeper to equal the score. Mutual 1 – 1 Durbanville.

There were chances going both ways with the scores level, both teams missing sitters! Shibby would like to remain nameless after, what can only be described as, trying to generate a tornado. Violently slashing at the ball in the circle and missing, causing huge winds in the opponents circle.

Never mind that crap - we had ourselves another beaut of a finish. Top class teamwork Mullet and TJ. From a short corner, well left by Shooter, Mullet received the ball outside of the D. He spotted TJ with a huge grin on his face shouting for the ball, with a near perfect slap and TJ diving for it to deflect it into the roof of the net. GOAL ! This has now made its way into the play book as one of our ‘variations’. Mutual  2 - 1 Durbanville

The game was not over yet. The next 10 minutes were the longest 10 minutes of our lives. I was counting in my head and it felt like we played an extra half. With Durbanville pushing hard for the equalizer. They were relentless, but I’m just glad they decided to mouth off to the umpire which ended in one of their players receiving a yellow. Followed by another yellow when they continued to mouth off. I am just glad Demon and Bastick decided to keep quiet for this game.

But as always with a lot of slowing down 16s, and occasionally ‘losing’ the ball, we defended well and held on for the victory. Well done to Sean and Justin for holding strong at the back for those last couple of minutes with Youngster having to save us a few times. I am sure we used all our “get out of jail free” cards for the season. Jono having a stellar game in the middle having to fill some big shoes as Petie-weepu was out sick and unfortunately  now has been dropped to the 2s, Jono was on the receiving end of a wild smash to the knee cap where he had to receive a couple of stiches near the end of the game with Speedo filling in for him in the middle.

Shooter doing his normal thing and controlling the game fantastically in the middle, I still don’t know how he manages to do it because im sure most of the spectators do more milage during the game that he does. Lol.
Special mention must go to Goose for awarding the 2 yellows, this still does not make up for the draw 2 years ago that cost us the perfect season….#JustSaying #WeWillAlwaysRemember

All in all, solid performance lads well done. First win of the season under the belt.  Looking forward to a good season form the Mutual SAD Mighty 3s. It seems that we have also lined up a sponsor for the season. Next we will be on SuperSport.lol

Final Score: 2-1

6Pack celebrating with us only realised an hour after the match that we had actually won after which he got a little emotional and was pushing for a team hug.
Man of the Match: Jono
Dick of the Day: Shibby

Thanks to 6 Pack for the rough draft…..the really really rough draft. lol
