Winter League Game Week #2 - vs Durbanville (Ladies 1s)

Date: 21 April 2012
Time: 16h30
Venue: Durbanville

Another week has passed for the Mutual ladies being in LGC and thank that Pope this week’s game was not a walk over compared to last week. With the final score only being 3-0 I believe we gave Durbanville a run for their money. They clearly did not expect us to stand up to them. What makes me say that, you ask? Well maybe because in the last 5 min left of the game Durbanville decided to take their keeper off and replaced her with a field player. Unfortunately….. for them that is, (LOL) they didn’t score after that. What can I say, us Mutual ladies know how to take abuse and no matter how much anyone knocks us down, we will get up again.

With this game being my 1st GC game I am finding it hard to recall what actually happened. Maybe because I was expecting to play my worst game ever. Even though my lungs were burning and my heart felt like it was going to jump out of my chest because the strikers I was defending clearly had rockets shoved up their….. (sorry, I’ll keep it PG13), our team still played as a unit. (Tosser - hehehe you said 'Unit') As most of the first half went by in a blur one thing I do remember is the great communication that happening in the back line.

I instinctively remember the moment in the first half when I finally ‘woke up’ and started remembering. It was when a Durbanville striker pumped the ball into the D only to be intercepted by Snail. The ball deflected off her stick at my face and if it wasn’t for my lightening fast reflex action, my face would have look like a pancake. ‘ So Thanks Snaily, for scaring me out of the Twilight Zone J” two things that I forgot to add to last weeks game report was Dani’s (Patella) attempt at entering the Gymastic Team with a crazy tumble movement that buffled the entire team. Funny thing is, it was accidental and caused by herself. Second thing was Snail’s phenomenal stop of the ball as it came flying in her direction, only to be followed by her playing that ball onto her foot. *Face Palm* so in the ladies first side we have named that moved so if ever you see someone do it, you can say: She/he S’nailed it!!!

The one thing I loved about this game was the fact that even though it was a defensive game… on our part… our links and strikers tried their best to work back and assist the halves with defense. When “WE” had breakaways up the left, (and by WE I mean the link wing and left link and me in spirit because my legs felt like lead at that point and needed some recovery time), we found it difficult to get into the D because it was being guarded like the Philosopher Stone in Harry Potter.

There is nothing more I can really say about the game other than the fact that we missed our Captain, Bridge. That is was great having Worm back in the Box and for me, great to be back on the turf playing for the Club I Love. And lets not forget about our faithful Supporters that came all the way to Durbanville. Passport control had their hands full. Special thanks to Gagger/Deep-Throat (Tosser - shotgun) for being the teams Taxi driver for the day! Much appreciated, even though she baled on us when we needed you the most… (In All the ‘down-downs’ during Fines)!

(Tosser - Thanks to the ladies that made it to the 3's game after fines. You guys were heard from the side lines)

Final Result: Mutual 0 - 3 Durbanville

Winter League Game Week #2 - vs Pinelands A (Mens 6s - Sexual Sixes)

Date: 21 April 2012
Tine: 15h00
Venue : Pinelands Cabbage Patch
Opposition : Pinelands A

So after an unfortunate start to our season the weak before, the boys were hopeful of turning things around, I was a little apprehensive, and hoping that the team would gel better this week. This apprehension was not assisted when I realised that we were playing the Dodo’s.

I decided that our initial gameplan would be to defend first and attack second, this actually worked for us because the Dodo’s played like all our other mutual sides attacking and not returning to defend, goose would have been livid. (Tosser - he would have had a great view of this from the club house thou! #ToldHim) We counter attacked them consistently and we had far more scoring options in our first 10 minutes then we had the entire game in the first match. After a number of movements from D to D for each team, we conceded a short corner which unfortunately the Dodo’s scored from. Sixes 0 – 1 Dodo’s.

Our centre link being tired moved to CB (I think I need more fitness) and pushed the CB forward, he made some good telling runs cementing his position at CL, before making a run down the side of the field and falling prey to the cabbage patch and rolling his Ankle Mutual 0-1 cabbage patch, Otees then filled the open space and within a couple minutes became the second victim to the cabbage Patch,  Starting the match with only 12 players we were now down to 10, and one of the kids having never played a club match before.
I turned my head and when I looked again one of our supporters was in a green kit and was on the field, (btw if his mom finds out, he is gonna be in kak) so now we were up to 11 again.

The half continued and our attack play became stronger and our boys were making these guys chase them.
Half time score: Sixes 0 – 1 Dodo’s

The half time chat was good the guys were smiling and were very excited about pulling this one back.
Out of nowhere another spectator, who was trying to decide if he should join the mutual family asked if he could play, we were short so I said yes. Just some perspective to the second half Scully who joined at half time was 13, and is half the size of Bastick, (yes I never thought I would say bastick was bigger then anything but he is)

This meant that the second half I started with a 15 year old, a 14 year old, 2 x 13 year olds and a 12 year old. Watching some of these guys commitment to the game was actually awesome and the effort they made to collect balls they lost, I think we should get some higher team players to come watch them.

Our second half was a great start and the defence was holding strong and our attack just got better, a free hit outside their quarter, Ronnie decided to look around and pass the ball back to me, I hit a ball flat into the D at the keeper, he popped it up in the direction of the 13 year old who may not be named the ball bounced once and he roofed it from 5 meters out, the defender substituted after the shot and disappeared into the change room! Sixes 1 – 1 Dodo’s

As the dodo’s pressed they allowed space for us, they also assisted us in our attacking endeavours when goose produced a custard slice to one of their players who decided to interpret the rules incorrectly and was irate when goose blew him up for it. The Pinelands boy decided to use some dirty language on Goose. And ten minutes less pressure for us. (Probably because Goose didn't see it hit the back board)

The second half was an eventful one for us the defence was really strong and even though our links were tiring they continued to get back in defense, Ronnie made numerous runs with the ball and the kids were working hard to get the ball into the opposition D, Luke Scully, showed some of the guys how to tackle when he took on a pinelands guy who according to sources was about 6’4” a pretty big guy and this little tackled him three times in a row and made him look so silly.

Unfortunately again in the last 5 minutes, with the team tiring more and more I made a defensive lapse and never stopped a ball top D, and the Dodo’s had a shot on goal lucas making the first save but not able to clear it off the line. And their player eventually popping it over him. Sixes 1 – 2 Dodo’s

A disappointing end to a great come back, but as discussed with the players a great effort for the Game and a major improvement from the previous game. 1 point from the game is a start up the log!
Our man of the match this week went to Stefan, our 12 year old Right Half.

Final score: Mutual 1 - 2 Pinelands

Winter League Game Week #2 - vs Somerset West (Ladies 4s)

Date: 21 April 2012
Venue: Somerset West
Opponent: Somerset West
Time: 15h00

So the second week of matches for the ladies fourth team commenced on the 21st of April. We all trekked our butts down to Somesets sand, sorry I mean "grass" fields, if you could call them that. So as the match got started, Somerset decided that they will start with the ball, which I was quite keen on, as I got to choose direction of play for my team. So with Mutual starting play into the sun for the first grueling 35 minutes in the heat, things started off rather badly, with one of Somersets old timers taking the ball and making a run up the field and scoring their first goal.

This seemed to wake our team up a bit and sparked some life into the game from there on forwards. Denying Somerset any more goals time after time after time. With some amazing saves , our goaly played as if she was a much older meaner version of her 11 year old self! Keep the great work up Cameron, show those tannies that you aren't intimidated by them!

Mutual kept up a good defensive first half and managed to keep a second goal from being scored.
After an inspiring team talk by our "keeper" for the day, Bollie, we were ready and rearing to go for the second half.

In the second half mutual came into the game attacking and made many great runs up the field, showing that the team is starting to come together nicely. Although the best shot at goals was made by new comer, Almina, which was slightly off centre. As Mutual got a shorty, the whistle blew to signal end of game. We had one shot at equalising, so pressure mounting, we took the shorty, tried the shot, and it was messed up by Somersets attacking defense.

Even though it was a loss for the team, it is amazing the way this team is coming together! Keep watching this space, as we have the biggest heart and biggest fight in the mutual family. This is going to be one unstoppable team!

So with two weeks of practice ahead of us, we are going to work harder than ever, and come out fighting in our 3rd match on the 4th of May.

End score:
MCPUT 0 - 1 Somerset West

I will return to the kitchen now...

Winter League Game Week #2 - vs Milnerton (Ladies 3s)

Talking points:
 - attacking short corners!!!!
 - marking goal side (# BJ, thanks for making this one obvious)

Date: 21 April
Venue: Mutual
Time: 15:00
Opponent: Milnerton A

After last weeks great result, the Ladies were looking forward to game 2. This week Milnerton came to visit, coming off a good result from their first game by winning 6 - 1. We all knew that this game would be a far better contest than last weeks schooling of Belhar...
A couple changes to last weeks side were obvious. Two Ladies had prior engagements (#wth Slacker, Jambo...) but with that came two new arrivals. The 2nd side had a few too many this week, so we had Scrat ('Katherine Nieuwstadt') returning and PG ('Nicky Judd') being being released on a free transfer. They were both welcomed with open arms because anyone coming from the 2nd side was sure to make our team stronger (# thank you very much 2's).

So all the Ladies were promptly on time as discussed. I was umpiring the Ladies 2's game which was played before our clash with Milnerton. We looked good in the warm up except for one issue that was eating me alive while I was umpiring on the far side of the turf....the Ladies were warming up by hitting and stopping on the grass/Oude Molen cabbage patch/Grand Canyon....just before we were about to play on the astro...WTH!!!!! Note, never will you ever EVER EVER do that again if we are about to play on the astro. The Milnerton side were a mixed bunch of youngens and old timers, and we expected an up and down sort of game.

Vis decided to lend his vintage umpiring kills to the toughest league for any ref, many thanks for keeping things under control.

The game started with Mutual making there way up the field with the ball being thrown around with some decent passing. We managed to penetrate the D a couple times and the shots were on target (unlike last week) but still lacked a bit venom which made it easier for the keeper save. One issue was realised quite early in the game, and only got worse as the game progressed. The heat was not helping the links and tired legs meant that Milnerton had a few counters with the numbers stacked in their favour.

Goal one came after some scrappy play in the Milnerton 25, we camped there a bit and a few long corners were taken. Nina made use of the quick free hits on the 5 yard line and made some decent runs into the D. The ball popped out square to Scrat who was on hand to blast a low shot past the keeper (# thank you very much 2's). Mutual 1 - 0 Milnerton.

We had a around 4 short corners in the first half, with only one shot being on target. It seemed as though the vortex/black hole was in effect again as 3 shots went passed the left hand post again again again, a repeat of last week. One hit Monster on the glove and I was told "it was a variation"....ja right! Guess what we will be working on at Tuesday practice???
Milnerton made use of one of their counter attacks and found themselves with a 3 on 1 situation. Eliminating our half, it was a 2 players with only Tiny ('Kayley Mac-Tavish') to beat. Tiny did her best to step and try cut the angle but she stood no chance with Milnerton flipping the ball to the far post for a tap in. Mutual 1 - 1 Milnerton and half time.

At half time we spoke about not letting them counter attack which meant some heavy running from the links. We also mentioned that short corner shots needed to be on target!!!!
There were also a few self nominated players who were all too keen to start the second half on the bench!!!

We dominated the second half a bit more than that of the first. Counter attacks were few and far in between but we managed to break down their attacks pretty quickly.
Goal two came from another few minutes spent inside the Milnerton 25. The possession changed hands a few times but the ball ultimately ended up on the top D with PG lurking. Arguably one of last seasons highest goal scorers in the club, this one was meat and drink for PG. A clean and crisp hit ensured the ball was going only one place...passed the keeper (# and again, thank you very much 2's). Mutual 2 - 1 Milnerton.

The second part of the 2nd half was pretty tense. Milnerton did not want to lose this game and pushed forward. But the back tracking from the links made life difficult for Milnerton. They did have one promising counter, but fantastic work by Tiny when she rushed an attacker and went down to close the shot, made sure we held on a bit longer. One odd moment was a bit worrying. Monster, our center half, lost a shoe in the middle of the field during a Milnerton attack. She had to run off to the sideline and try put her shoe on as soon as possible and get back onto the field. The bench watched in panic as it seemed as though Monster had about 7 sets of laces...or maybe she reverted back to singing a little rhyme to try help her remember how to tie laces!!!! It didn't help that we have no idea how to stall a game...She made it back onto the field with no damage being done.

Final Score: Mutual 3's 2 - 1 Milnerton

It was a great game for the neutrals....but who the eff are they! We always wanted to win this one.
A great result for the team. Our half's did well in the back with special mention to Pot ('Shandre le Breton') having a great defensive game. I don't remember one player getting past her. And I am sure there wasn't one Milnerton short corner (facts to be verified...). Thanks to the links for the running they put in during the heat of mid-day. The frustrating aspect is that it feels as though we haven't quite hit our full potential yet. It is still early in the season and I believe that once we hit our groove, we are going to do very well in games that should otherwise be tough for us. Still, who can complain with 2 wins from 2...

We have a week break, followed by a double header which promises be awesome. Oh, not sure if I said this but, thank you very much 2's!

Winter League Game Week #2 - vs Northlink (Mens 5s - Vikings)

Date: 22 April 2012
Venue: Belville Astro
Time: 15:00pm
Opponent: Northlink

Things to work on:
  • Fitness
  • Falling back to help defend
So after a bad loss the weekend before the guys were ready to play and keen for their first win. From the Vikings tour we knew our best tactic, and decided to once again rely on this tried and tested strategy. this strategy being go out have a biggy the night before, to ensure we were nicely hungover for sunday's game, LOL.... joking. However a one of the Vikings took this tactic to heart and started Friday morning while watching the Stormers game, so by that night when the team started to see who was up to what the following conversation ensued on the Vikings group:

Team: ''Team: Who is going out?"
Bailey: "I am piss already, i don't know where i am.."
Bailey: "But there is lights, and i am in.."
Team: "Blue lights?"
Bailey: "Not yet''

this from Bailey one of the quietest players on game day, for when he talks up its a big surprise.

Back to the match report, the guys met up at the astro a good hour before the start at 3pm, but Northlink only had 5 guys down and waiting for more to come down. They requested a delay to the start, just a few minutes, we said ok cool we wil go have a ''cooldrink'' and have a team ''chat''.

At 3:15 we decided to wait no longer (even though their keep, who had been there for 30min, hadn't started kitting up). Northlink with 8 on the field and not providing an umpire the game got under way with us relying on Bastick to blow by himself. Of the 1st attacking move we had a nice break trought with Mullet runing into the D and making a good shot at goals and scored.

Mutual 1- Northlink 0

As we restarted, they had managed their own break through and their unmarked center forward put it away for a quick turn around goal.

Mutual 1- Northlink 1 (2 min played)

After a couple of comments of oh well lets start again we got under way, moving the ball round.. with some good passing between players, Dazz receives the ball takes it into the D. Dazz connects nicely and the ball rocketed towards the goals, almost hitting a Northlink defender. The Defender (who we would have nicknamed Dildo as he was so useless) with a thoughtful look on his face jumped into air where he tried to air punch Dazz.

a few minutes latter, Ross steals the ball and makes a amazing pass into the D where Mullet picked it up, right infront of the keeper and finished it off into the nets. #keeper thought he was gonig to die as his life flashed before his eyes.

Mutual 2- Northlink 1

Most of the rest of the half was uneventful before just before half time when Randy made another break through, passing it to Speedbump who touched onto Bum, who finished it off.

Mutual 3 - Northlink 1

Soon after that the Northlink link, runs into up our right side getting passed 3 mutual players. Goose steps up to try tackle him, but he lays it off to the now open centre forward, who finishes it off.

Half time Mutual 3 - Northlink 2

Second half kicks off..
Ball goes to the backline with some good passing around between Bailey, Yates, Goose and Dan well play guys. The ball manged to go up the line to Ross who switched it al around with a masive square pass to Mullet, 1 on 1 with keeper.. Makes the keeper look like a beacon as he rounds him, composes himself and puts away his hatrick.

Mutual 4- Northlink 2

Northlink not happy at all and proceed with a heavy offensive, getting it to baseline entering the D they play it onto Goose's foot and convert the shorty.

Mutual 4- Northlink 3

The game goes on both teams playing hard and pushing for more goals. Not long after that Dildo (that Northlink defender) ran behind Speedbump who turned around for a swing at the ball. Almost hitting Dildo aswel, and pushes Speedbump out the game in retaliation. Having already warned him Bastick sends him off with a custard.

With their worst player off, Northlink gets better attacking ball and mange to score another goal. #I told u that
player was useless.

Mutual 4- Northlink 4

Not long after the yellow carded Dildo (I mean player) gets back onto the astro the centre forward decided to make the game interesting, after calling various players "P#@s" (you know that Cape Flats slang for a woman's privates), Basil decides to warn him one last time. A slight argument ensues with Basil telling the forward to shut it. The forward being a real wise ass decides to flip Basil of and that enough Basil awards him a green. The forward then launches into a tirade of claiming he didn't say anything so basil has no rights to send him off, eventually his captain persuades him to leave the field. But not before he turns to Basil stating "ek sal jo frek maak". Does Basil call the game? Upgrade to a yellow? Nope, green stands.

The game resumed, however the forward was trying to make good his threat, retrieving a screwdriver from his bag. He waves it around threateningly shouting "Ek wag vir hom, hey moet af kom", before one of his own players takes the weapon off him. A couple minutes latter Basil calls him back onto the field (Really?).

With him back on to the astro mutual makes a nice break trough with Bailey hitting it into he D. Speedbump picks it up and finished it off into the goals.

Mutual 5 - Northlink 4

With only seconds remaining in the game Northlink get awarded another shorty, stright to top, slipped to their right, straight poke and Northlink have their 5th goal.

Final score:
Mutual 5- Northlink 5

It was a very exciting game, and to all the teams who have not played them yet and still have too, don't for get to take your tool box with u to the game, mite need it.

Winter League Game Week #2 - vs UCT A (Mens 2s)

Date: 21 April 2012
Venue: Mutual
Time: 16h30
Opponent: UCT A

This weekend saw the 2s facing stronger opposition in the form of the UCT 3rd side, however our ranks had been bolstered by Boogs, Bob and the return of Sparky (Oh and the Raff taking a sabbatical) (Tosser - so the team was alot stronger with Raff out having his hysterectomy). Yet another slow start saw UCT grab a soft early goal after they dominated the opening 5 minutes. We then got our act together and found our rhythm and started to play some very good hockey.

Patches dominating up the right flank saw a few chances created for us but we couldn’t find the back of the net. As Mutual continued to push forward, a UCT player got frustrated and decided to have a go at Dutch (I thought UCT students are intelligent, should have had a go at Bastick rather than the biggest and most Afrikaans oke in our team) which resulted in him getting a good serving of custard. A few minutes later UCT got a green as well which saw them 2 men down, but even with the 2 man advantage we still couldn’t score. The culprits being Vis and Patches, with them missing relatively simple chances.

With Mutual pushing forward, UCT was causing trouble with their counter attack but some solid defence kept them from scoring. The half ended 1 – 0 to UCT. The second half began as the first ended, with Mutual dominating but not being able to score. It was then our turn to get some cards with Sparky picking up a green and Mo a lil Halal custard. It seemed to make no difference as we still dominated possession and the UCT side seemed to have lost the plot when their forwards decided to take each other out in spectacular fashion and their captain decided he was keen on some custard too, but despite this we still couldn’t score with Shooter missing an absolute sitter from a shorty and Ninja a one on one being the worst of the misses. UCT’s counter attacking finally caught us napping as they added a second.

This made no difference to us as we continued to attempt to find a way through the defence which eventually came through a neatly executed zig zag shorty which Bob slotted. 2 – 1 to UCT with 5 minutes to go. We then put everything towards getting the draw and a few seconds left on the clock it looked as if Vis was gonna work some magic..........but he got tackled before getting into the D (Fail! I’m beginning to see why he got dropped). So it ended in a 1 – 2 loss for the Mutual 2s, however there are plenty of positives to take away from the result namely the fact that we are dominating play and we’re scoring shorties (very unlike Mutual) we just need to work on our finishing and taking our chances and we will start to see results.

Result: Mutual 2s 1 – UCT A 2

Winter League Game Week #2 - vs Milnerton Maniacs (Mens 3s)

Good morning guys

Well it was a good start to the season
1.       Completely dominated our opponents, yet me struggled in the last quarter when finishing – again we could have scored more in the first half.
2.       I know our umpires are shocking, but let’s keep 11 men on the park at all times. There is no need to tell them how shit they are #ToldDemon. (Cubby this week and Goose’s disallowed goal last week)
3.       Don’t get injured so much. When I get hurt…. I just stop being hurt and be awesome! Write that down.

21 April 2012
Venue: Hartleyvale B
Opponents: Milnerton

Getting thru the first week of hockey unbeaten, the ‘Thoroughbred 3s’ took to the field to what would be our most physical encounter of the season and Millies didn’t disappoint. (I hope this will be the most physical encounter)

We had the ball and centred off, the entire Millies team rushing at us like a scene from Braveheart shouting feeeeeeedooooom. I even think one of the guys had his face painted. They seemed to rush at us with the strength of 10 men, but we absorbed pressure well. After the first 5 minutes of Millies running at us we seemed to fine the gears and switched from 1st gear to 4th showing that we could dominate as well which we did for the remaining 30minutes of the half. Sherman with his stats quickly pointing out that we only dominated 45% of the half.

Milnerton being awarded the first shorty of the game, Sherman (being an ex-Millies player) ran out first wave like his life depended on it. Running straight down the barrel willing to take a hit anywhere, The Millies striker (From here on referred to as Head) skied a shot going past Shermans head and smashing Mick on the fingers. Mick taking one for the team but had to go off to recover.

Rusty then took control of centre link letting Pete drop back to half to replace Mick the team continuing to dominate. Sometime during the first half the Milnerton captain (Berti) smashed a ball into poor Spud’s foot, a nasty welcome to men’s league hockey. PJ also got a stick to the face which was only realised at half time when we couldn’t find our second player on the bench. He now has a ‘Harry Potter’ looking scar on his head.

Milnerton having a hit outside the circle to be taken by Head, who has not played hockey in 4 years. This was noted when he smashed the ball straight in and a free hit was given to us. Till unable to score during the first half, we carried on pushing on. Near the end of the first Berti taking a wild swing at a ball which had popped up almost killing four players around him, one being his own team mate. After the hit was given to Milnerton , Demon taking a page out of Vis’ playbook decided to be quite tactful and started arguing with an umpire who enjoys sending people off who are playing against Milnerton. Demon was shown green (lucky boy) and was given a rest for the rest of the half.

As the half time whistle was blown, both captains got called across for a quick kak out session. We were told the wild swings and chirping had to stop. Mutual 3s gathered in the far goals to have a half time talk. I picked these goals so that all the strikers could see them and be aware of where they were. Team talk was very chilled since we were dominating, we just needed to convert.

The second half started much like the first half did, but this time Milnerton keeping up the pressure for more than 5 minutes. The defense was absorbing pressure well again. Caveman getting stuck with the high lying striker, thanks for taking one for the team bud.
There was a lot of back and forth during the game with both teams trying to rely on counter attacks. We were awarded our 3rd shorty of the match. The first one getting deflected by a Usain Bolt of a first wave and the second one almost rolling away for a long corner it was so wide. The push and stop were both brilliant, Tosser setting up and popping a wounded rabbit dead centre of the goals. Normally the defending team would laugh at this…but this drag push thing actually went in and we scored. Mutual 1 – 0 Millies

All of a sudden Millies were pushing hard for the equaliser even thou they were a player down, with 10 minutes left in the game and 10 men on the field (Berti having a few choice word to say to Goose and been given a bowl of custard for his troubles). But 10 man Millies seemed to push us even harder than 11 man Millies. Pete rolling his ankle suddenly when we were on a quick counter meant we had to change up our formation again.

We were kinda at sixes and sevens running around chasing the ball trying to get everyone into their positions. At this time Milnerton decided to bring on their secret weapon. They had a sleeper cell on the field this whole time and only when they were a man down did they decide to bring him out. Disguised as an umpire, he immediately had an impact on the game. Giving Millies a shorty after I swung and missed the ball the first time, apparently I missed it the second time as well (actually knocked the ball onto the strikers foot) – and I thought I would have gotten 3 strikes.

Well setting up to defend 3 shorties in a row, they finally bundled past first and second wave having only the 2 left feet of Vis to beat. Flipping it head height from close range poor Fishy didn’t stand a chance. Mutual 1 – 1 Millies.

We were hungry now, pushing all players forward wanting that winning goal. Millies in turn did the same trying to push us. Both teams having their share of chances, but with a great move up the right then switched across to the right. Our steeple chaser known as Winders with his long strides and step overs (FFS sometimes they are completely useless thou) made a break down the left. A comple of short passes later saw Winders in enough space to get a pass off to Blake who was clinical as always. That’s 2 for 2 from the ginger. Mutual 2 – 1 Millies.

Milnerton started to panic, Caveman beat their striker and as he got a meter past Head he started to hear the Highlander theme song, Head showing no concern for the ball, Caveman or his own body. With a head of steam throwing his entire body into a tackle that even Butch James would think would be illegal, now lenient Goose only produced a green after the Millies ‘secret weapon’ seemed to turn a blind eye.

In the end with some frantic defending, a burst of spead down the middle of the field with Tosser almost clocking 5km per hour and some fantastic time wasting we held it together until the final whistle. Getting a deserved, yet scrappy at times, win. We are all patiently awaiting Scooter & Spud to join the goal scoring sheet. But when they do this team is going to F shit up!

Final Score Mutual 2 – 1 Milnerton

Having a quick look at the logs and results Mutual 2nd on the log to Fishhoek because of goal difference. UCT coming back from a 5-2 loss to Milnerton to thump Durbanville 12-0. Looks like this league is going to be wide open this year!

Next Game:
Saturday 5th may @ Mutual
Time: 16h30
Opponents: Fishhoek

Our benchmark of 13 wins for the season is cut down by 1. Next up we have Fishhoek, who are looking quite strong this season and rumoured to have had quite a few new recruits coming in for the higher sides pushing their experienced players down.

Part 5 of the Men's "New Arrivals' sees up being introduced briefy to Calvin, Matt and Jason, also welcoming back Bailey. And yes there are still more to come. Playing position: Centre Link                  Current team: 4s

Another one of our recruits from the leagues of summer, Calvin joins us from the Educational Institution of UCT. During his first game in Green and Blue starting off what I hope to be many more to come( watch this space... ok you can stop watching now). He is rumoured to have the same problem Tosser has with following girls around the 2 Oceans half and 2 stay next to Cracker( yet they both come in separate cars to hockey!! southern suburbs kids). Welcome Calvin... nick name to be given at next fines meeting.

Full name: Matthew Parsons                  Nickname:
Date of birth: 31-01-1992                       Previous club: High school (Tableview)
Playing position: Right back                  Current team: 4s

We found Matthew during our recruiting drive in summer league, he has never played club before and due to the fact that we are the closest club to Tableview #tellmilnerton, he decided to join us.

Bailey has been a part of the mutual family for a number of years and I am surprised more people don’t know him, O wait he never says anything!!!
We cant say we brought him out of retirement because this fitness freak rides is racer to practice in the rain with 40km winds and has his stick bag on his back. WTF

Date of birth: 01-03-1993                       Previous club: Fresh from high School (Settlers)

What can we say about Jason? Well not really very much Last night was his first practice! Jason is one of the Belville CPUT students who felt it was time to get back into hockey and make something of himself! We will see what we can get out of him!

Next week will see the end of the Mens 'New Arrivals' and the ladies new recruits will be up as well as a new player profile and of course the riveting match reports from the weekends games!
Good luck to all the teams over the weekend.

New Arrivals #4

Its time for part four of our 'New Arrivals' post with 4 more players. Yeah we have this many new comers this year. Still waiting on a few people to get back to me with the new players they have. Hopefully it The Mens sections will be done by tomorrow. Then we will start on the ladies side which Piles, Spur, Tatty and Mona will be helping me out with (By this I mean actually doing it and letting me post it so I can take all the credit for it)
Just waiting on #Deny, #Els, #KFM to send me the rest of the guys.

Full name: Max Daniel Constandse         Nickname: Dan, Dan the Man
Date of birth: 22-02-1982                       Previous club: WPCC (Uni of PE before that)
Playing position: Left back                    Current team: Vikings

I had no idea his name was Max? Anyway that’s besides the point. I was introduced to Dan thru mutual friends….that isn’t hockey friends…it means we have the same friend. This was about two years ago at a shitty, don’t want to go there again campsite called *Deleted for security reasons*. The kind of place you have to light a fire to have a warm shower…..outside. Soon Dan will descover the awesomeness that is Mutual hockey club. Tricked into playing hockey again by Speedo before realising there was running involved. He has been out of the game for a while but seems keen to get back in there!

What a beaut of a pic…..Buffalo by the way. #2Fingers

Full name: Dave Blackburn                     Nickname: Ninja
Date of birth: 03-10-1991                       Previous club: WPCC
Playing position: Forward                      Current team: 2’s

We were lucky enough to fall into Ninja’s 3 year cycle (my sources tell me that he chops and changes sports as often as Goose changes his hockey socks….so every 3 years) Also having the attention span of a brick, it took me 35 minutes to get him to tell me his birthday. Joining the club as a forward for the 2s this year, looks like we going to have a hot 2s side......lets hope they can play hockey as well. #Yeah i said it

Full name: Peter Wright                          Nickname: Pete
Date of birth: 15-11-1985                       Previous club: Bellville (Pulled out of retirement)
Playing position: Link                            Current team: 3’s

Another member of the EHS old boys (Yes that’s right another Edgemead player – soon we will be known as EMCPUT) Pete was pulled out of retirement recently. Another notch of KFM’s ‘I recruited him’ belt. He will be one of our more ‘experienced’ players in the 3s this year. Let’s hope his legs last!

Full name: Lance Davis                          Nickname: Kraken
Date of birth: 21-07-1989                       Previous club: Durbanville
Playing position: Link                            Current team: 2’s

Our very own superstar/rapper/producer. South Africa’s version of P Diddy, but also having some phenomenal stick work to go with it. Reasonable unfit at the moment, it’s a toss-up between him and Mo who can last longer, lol. Recruited from Durbanville by Rusty, it’s always good to have youngsters join the club. Time for the seniors to initiate….um…. I mean mould this youngster. If he has half the hockey lifespan of Demon, he will be playing hockey for the next 40 years. Lets hope he plays them at Mutual.

Indoor Game Week #9 vs. Reddam (Titans)

Indoor Game Week #9 Reddam B (Titans)

After winning convincingly 13-1 against this team in the last game we knew it would be an easy win but our captain said to keep our composure and play as a team.

We started quickly with a shot in the first 5 seconds but it was right at the keeper. We had a few more chances throughout the game but they were straight at the keeper. Disappointingly we conceded the first goal! They moved the ball well around us. But we luckily got a short corner which shooter then put away.
The brothers then won another short corner which Cracker then put away. After the game slowed down there was a rush and shooter made a run down the right and Eric put it away. 3-1 Titans. Reddam then got their own by our selfish actions with a 3 on 1 turning into a goal. 3-2

The second half began and after a lot of easy misses by our forwards we decided to give the defence a chance and after winning a short corner Gareth stepped up to the plate. Pushed out the shooter he faked and placed it for Gareth to place the ball bottom left for his first Titans goal!

Writing this without boasting I them put 3 goals away in very similar manner to receive my second hatrick in 2 weeks. I went off after that and watched Reddam score their 3rd goal of the match (very disappointing). We received our last short corner of the match and we let defence take a crack again, mick stepping up to top D and cracker passed to shooter and from shooter it went to mick who……. Dragged the ball as sweetly as ever and placed it in the impossible top left corner with no chance of any keeper saving.

Final score Titans 8 - 3 Reddam
we moved to top of the table until the Vikings played after us.

Filling in because Shooter is lazy
