Indoor Game Week #6 vs. Milnerton Gingers (Vikings)

Good day ladies and gentlemen

Lots of gingers playing against us I think there fire put us off

Points to ponder:

1.       Blaming the umpire for the loss doesn’t make sense, he (Bollie) only blew his whistle 10 times in 40 minutes.
2.       Blaming the Sunningdale turf for the loss only has its merits for the first 10 minutes of the game,
3.       Having a conversation at half time means we should listen to the game plan and follow through.
4.       When we take a short corner, lets score.

26 February 2012
Venue – Sunningdale
Opposition – Milnerton Gingers

After the first game of the season when we realised that these ‘rangers' are only let out of their cages for games, we knew that this would be a toughie however based on the pre match warm up, I don’t think we were showing it, guys standing top D using all their best flicks before the game and some guys dropping their kids at the pool. Maybe a little too relaxed for a game against the team who held us.

As usual the game started with a bit of pace and we were using the boards to their full potential, trying our utmost to get into their D and get a poke on goal, this proved extremely difficult and when we did get something going, the extra touch or the finish was lacking.

At our first short corner (1 of many) we had the usual push out to the side and flick direct to the keeper who batted the ball done right in front of me, as I motion to collect the ball which bounced off the turn and pretty much eye level the umpire blows against me and says no control? I was still waiting to touch the ball. Oh well complaint #1.

The first half was a combination of glory ball by the Gingers and free hits for us after the ball passed the baseline.

When I watched my first game her I noticed the confusion between the lines on the baseline and I had a feeling one or two of our guys may fall in to the trap, if I had to pick a person, it probably would have been speedbump, and lo and behold he never let me down, having an amazing pull on the baseline over the backline. The usual sheepish (aka the raff look) look, while running back to position.

The first half ended goalless, and we had a really good halftime chat, identifying our shortcomings and discussing a plan to combat these short comings and move forward.

The second half started and true to mutual team dynamics the half time discussion and game plan fell away. Clearly half time is for resting at Mutual cause I don’t think we know how to change our game plan half way through the match.

Milnertons 1st goal came from a break away both our backs standing on the halfway line watching play while the snuck in behind them, Ginger glory ball to top D slips to his mate and bam near post past the diving Sting! Poor lad 2 on 1 with no chance of saving.Vikings 0 – 1 Gingers

A lot more free hit run 2 meters pass to the middle of the pitch loose the ball have a counter attack loose the ball counter attack, Bollie blows his whistle (everyone stops and waits to see who is getting custard, realising no one is and carrying on.) I think Bollie may have been rather tired after umpiring the previous game between the 3’s and Café del Mar, I don’t think he has had to blow so much in a long time? Also after dishing so much green jelly and yellow custard , he may have been a little sleepy, fortunately there was no Guava in his trifle, otherwise he would have been completely broken. (Tosser - nice, i see what you did there)

On one of his blows we got another short corner, to my amazement we put together a variation, unintentionally I think but a scoring one nonetheless, this brought great excitement because the score was now Vikings 1 – 1 Gingers (WTF)

The game became sloppy as we pushed to get the winner but it was a constant stop start and the umpires were ignoring each other’s signals and blowing their own game, not sure the other umpire knows the set rule! But oh well.

On one of our attacks on their goal, the gingers were left lurking again and got a free ball, two on one with the keeper again, no hope and Ginger goal. Vikings 1 – 2 Gingers

Other than us making every attempt to pull back an equaliser we did so to no avail, and we lost our first game of the season.

The Dylan/Raff emo award for this week’s game goes to Elsie for his childish behaviour after the game kaking out bollie for his poor decisions and not shaking any of the Gingers hands after the Game.

Having watched the first team play on this turf I thought to myself flip, if they can win I am sure anyone can (#tellconberg), clearly I was right, cause the Gingers won!

Final score Vikings 1 – 2

Next Game – Vikings vs. Reddham SANDF 28 Feb
