Good morning guys
I never seem to get tired of saying this, the “Thorough bred
3s” are still unbeaten!
(Copy/paste). Still feeling the match from 12 hours ago in
our legs and some of the boys feeling the brant’s and beers from the night
before, we made our way thru to Stellenbosch at the crack of WhoCares for a
childishly early game at 10h30.
Date: 10 June 2012 - preplayed fixture
Time: 10h30
Venue: Stellenbosch
Opponents: Van der Stel
Arriving at the game, 6 Pack just didn’t look himself.
Probably because the bar was closed. He was still nursing his ego after being
given a shot of vinegar by two of his Ex’s who had been present at last night’s
game. But all this soon changed at 10h00 when he came walking back with his
morning beer.
Losing the toss for the second game in a row, but ending up
playing away from the sun (so technically it’s a win in my books) we started
off the game quite slowly still feeling last night’s match in our legs. But for
some reason the brandts at the ECC (Edgemead Cricket Club) seems to make
Blake’s legs work faster. He was treaded thru a great ball around the 25,
narrowly slipping past a defender and 1 v 1 with the keeper he went for a jab
(kinda miss hitting it) but ended up giving the keeper a nutty and getting our
first goal of the day. Mutual 1 – 0 VD Stel.
Mutual were soon at it again with Spud and 6 Pack working
well together to feed a ball through to Brown on the far post with another slap
in. Mutual 2 – 0 VD Stel.
VD Stel thought it was time to attack. They decided the
river ball approach was their best option. Although many of them were cut out
by our outside links (Demon and Rusty) one or two seemed to sneak thru. Tosser
running across to cover a ball in the corner that had somehow come through.
Realising it wasn’t going to go out in time he took evasive action and somehow
managed to scrimamage three (yeah I couldn’t believe my eyes either) VD Stel
attackers. Shooter was calling for the ball line and Tosser just seemed to
carry on running towards him.
The same thing happened on Cavemans side of the field,
Caveman recovering well and feeding a ball to Shooter and sending us clear from
danger. Sherman also getting his first touch on the ball in 80 minutes, he was
so excited. With Mick pushing hard up the right as he did in the previous game
and smashing balls into the circle, we dominated most of the first half. But we
couldn’t seem to get that next break through.
And that’s how it ended at half time. With Mutual leading 2
– 0 over VD Stel.
The second half started a little sketchy, with VD Stel
pushing forward. But the 3s defence (Also known as the ‘Wall’) kept their score
line to 0. Winders listening well during the half time talk and hanging on the
side line to stretch the field having acres of space of the left. Sometimes
running for 15/20 meters before a VD Stel player went across to tackle him.
After all this attacking the second half dead lock was
finally broken. This goal which can only be described as the goal of the season
(for those at WPCC – it was so much better than that goal) from our 16 then
ball went to Pete who say Winders in space on the left. Winders dummys his
opposite number and flips a ball through to Demon. Pete continuing his run from
the halfway line gets smashed the ball from Demon and with a glancing slap send
the ball just outside far post where Brown (at full speed) dives at with an
outstretched arm. The ball hitting the roof of the net and the VD Stel keeper
with no chance. Mutual 3 – 0 VD Stel.
From then on we had one goal in mind, the bonus point.
Pressing the VD Stel players like there was no tomorrow, we turned over the
ball in their 25. Asking the players afterwards, no one is really sure what
happened. But the ball popped out on their goal line and one of their defenders
smashed at the ball and it hit the side netting. Pete was credited with the
goal. Mutual 4 – 0 VD Stel.
With the bonus point in our sights we kept pushing with 8
minutes to go, desperately wanting to extend our lead at the top of the table.
With VD Stel packing their circle with players they had another counter. From
the 25 they smashed a ball to the far post where their right wing, trying to
emulate Browns goal, narrowly missed. I am sure if you asked Caveman and
Sherman they will tell you that they had it covered.
With the clock running out another goal mouth scramble
resulted in Brown pushing the ball into the keeper twice, the keeper falling on
his defenders stick, losing his own glove & stick and Brown sitting with
the ball at far post for what seemed like 10 minutes. A gentle scoop past the
crawling VD Stel defence and with that goal it put us in bonus point
contention. Mutual 5 – 0 VD Stel.
With a few minutes left in the game we were awarded a short
corner. Keen to get 6 Pack to score and hopefully get my beer for the assist I called
a slip. A fantastic slip saw Shooter stretch for his life so that he could get
his dummy in. 6 Pack controlling the ball with an open net to shoot at besides
one defender on the post……he decides to hit the one defender. So a stroke was
awarded, deciding to let 6 Pack finish the job. He sent keeper to his right and
slid it past him on his left, 6 Pack said it must have been his body swerve. Mutual
6 – 0 VD Stel.
And with that say the end of the game. After being held to a
2 – 2 draw during our first encounter with Van Der Stel, it was good to get the
bonus points off them the second time around. One more game and then we will
get the well-deserved 5 week rest that we have been looking forward to.
Final Score Mutual 6 – 0 VD Stel.
Last game before the 5 week break:
Wednesday 13th June @ Mutual
Time: 20h30
Opponents: Conberg
Taking us to 8 wins for the season. Another clean sheet and another
bonus point.
VIVA “Thorough bred 3s” VIVA!! FTW
Blake on 19 goals out of 9 games, Deeeeeer! – 3 in 2 games
and it has been said he is out of form, but he remains the only player (that I
know of) to score in every game so far this season.
Brown catching up to Blake and upping his tally to 10.
#TeamEdgemead with 29 between them – They have recently been
compared to the strike pairing of vintage Manchester United’s Andy Cole and
Dwight Yorke.
Yours in awesomeness
Tosser
