The
first of our games in this weekends’ double header was against the Central 2s.
We gladly welcomed the legend that is Glenzo back to the team! As a result Vis
moved up to the 1s and we had a feeling we got the better part of the
deal....however we then remembered we still had Bastick and Raff in the
team.
With
a new formation for the game we looked the better side from the word go taking
control of the match early on with Central not able to get any circle entries.
We however didn’t make much of our dominant play with no one stepping up to
finish. We then were struck by our old foe, shorties. Central won shorty and
neatly finished it to take a 1 – 0 lead. This left the backline frustrated as
we had prevented them from taking any shots at goal. Central managed to win
another shorty before the half and yet again put it away. We had our chances at
the other end but we were met by a very good Central keeper who seemed to be
saving everything with ease.
The half ended 2 – 0 to Central with the 2s very
frustrated as Central had not had a single open play opportunity.
The
second resulted in play opening up as the legs began to get tired. As we tried
to push forward Central would hit us on the counter and were creating chances
but the defence were doing a good job of keeping them out. We were struck by
some terrible umpiring yet again, as Central were awarded a dubious shorty
which they managed to put away. With the 2s being 3 goals down we began to
throw everything forward and with legs beginning to suffer we saw some
interesting decisions regarding players positions, for example; who thought it
would be a good idea to put Bastick at left half!! #CoachFailAgain.
Through a
good counter Central added a 4th but the 2s continued to show heart
and to look for a goal. Our best chance came after a top ball by Bob to Patches
in the D which had us all thinking goal time....but he managed to cock it up
just like hed did with his p – flick #NoBMT.
The
game ended Mutual 0 - 4 Central.
A game which we could have won but simple mistakes
let us down yet again. But nothing we can do but look forward and learn from
our mistakes. Oh and welcome back Glenzo!!!
