Good morning boys and girls (and others)
The sixth game of our season was one filled with
amazing goals, bodies being put on the line and rocking up on time....
Points to ponder:
1)
Timing is everything: Dan running onto the field
15seconds before the game starts
2)
Dan become hypnotised when someone does
yardsticks in front of him
3)
Never say die
26 May 2012
Opponents: Paarl Men’s 2s
Venue: Paarl Gym Astro
As mentioned in point one, our left back decided
to blame traffic for him over sleeping and decided to walk onto the field
15seconds before the game started. But that’s ok, because 45 seconds later he
was in action munching his opposition winger and clearing the ball up to our
forwards resulting in a good run up the line which was eventually cleared into
the middle of their field. And this is where the game stayed for most of the
first half. The link line showed they were capable of running and retreating to
help in defence (see miracles do happen). – This lasted all of 15 minutes and
for the last 20 minutes of the first half the backs must have felt like they
were all on their own again.
During a period of play in the latter 10 min of
the game one of the Paarl youngsters managed to hypnotised Dan with his
yardsticks while standing still and eventually ran around him into the D but
lucky Goose was there to put his body on the line (more to follow). Shortcorner
for Paarl, Mutual 0 - 1 Paarl.
----------------HALF TIME -----------------
The halftime chat as ever consisted of Speedbump
telling everyone we’re a social side and are just here to have fun but we
better win.....I’m confused....
Goose telling everyone how terrible the links are
(It’s hot and I'm tired but I’m trying my best Goose I promise).
----------------2nd
HALF-----------------
We started the first half well, working our way
from the backs, through the link line into the forwards and Mullet finishing
off a well worked team goal Mutual 1 – 1 Paarl. But this seemed to relax us and shortly afterwards
Paarl put in 2 goals that seemed to take the wind out of our sails a bit. 3-1
to Paarl.
With 15 min left we managed to earn a free hit
just outside their 25. I had pushed myself up to centre forward and leading
away from where i wanted the ball then changing direction i suddenly found
myself in SO much space (Thanks Tosser for the years of coaching – it finally
came to use). Gareth (aiming at Mullet) caned the ball into their D and a
perfect little touch from me saw a deflection fly between the keepers helmet
and his glove, 3-2.
But once again, Paarl being Paarl struck back by
winning a shorty. The ever consistent
and brave Bailly running first wave intercepted the ball off a deflection
clipping his testicle (KRINGE). Another shorty to Paarl. Stepping up to run the
new first wave I ran out, Paarl decided to hit the ball, lifting it into my arm
and rendering me useless for the final 7 min of the game.
What actually happened next, I don’t know because I
was too busy crying in a corner. I just know we got the ball (with 2min to
spare), Bum found his way into the D, pulled the keeper and slipped the ball in
on the angle.
Final Score 3-3.
A game we should have won, but showed our true
fighting spirit and manage to still grab 2 points.
Next game:
White Stripes at home
Newly appointed Vikings Captain, and i always look good in a...
