Time: 13h30
Venue: WPCC
Opponents: WPCC A
The 2s arrived at WPCC on Saturday afternoon all exchanging stories from the night before and had a quick counseling session for Sparky as an older lady really seemed to have her finger on the situation with him from the night before. We were all bustling with confidence due to some very encouraging signs from training that we were playing some of the best hockey we have played the whole season. We also welcomed Brundle to the side, Glenzo didnt feel so bad being black now that there was a ginger in the side. Another addition to the team was Skywalker providing us with some talent in the defense department.
The game started off with both sides feeling each other out, however it was WPCC who had the first real chance of the game in the form of a shorty. They proceeded to put in a scrappy goal as Milky saved their first attempt only for them to clean up the scraps to make it Mutual 0 -1 WPCC.

Mutual were struggling to
find their feet against the log leaders and they soon grabbed a second goal
through a good finish. WPCC were beginning to show their class, but we had
other idea's.We began to hit our stride and started linking several good passes together and
before we knew it Glenzo was released in the D and cooling rounded the keeper
and smashed our first goal of the game in.Mutual 1 -2 WPCC.
At this point the
game opened up with both teams having their chances at either side, but WPCC
were definitely worried that the game may be slipping away from them. However a
lapse in concentration from Mutual allowed WPCC to win a shorty. They buried
the dragflick which Curly wish he saw at post man. The teams went into the
break with the score at Mutual 1 -3 WPCC.
Mutual came out flying after halftime with Bondi providing us with out first
real coaching this season #tellSparky. We were playing some quality hockey and
the log leaders didn't know what had hit them. The 2s were creating chances but
just lacking the finish. That was until Ninja used his pace to get away from a
defender and get one on one with the keeper and slot a simple finish to make it Mutual 2 -3 WPCC. We could taste an upset!!
At this point the game took a disappointing turn with WPCC getting annoyed the game play began to go out the window and WPCC started to play the man instead of the ball. This resulted in several interesting chirps and some good cross cover defense from Carl after he had lost his stick in a tackle (The Stormers should have been taking lessons).
While WPCC tried to hold their slim lead, Mutual was attacking furiously to find an equaliser and then a winner. We thought the equaliser had come when Glenzo had another one on one with the keeper, but he put his attempt wide. Sadly the game ended Mutual 2 -3 WPCC.
A valiant effort from the lads and some hockey we can be proud of, however we now need to take this form through to the bottom 6 and look to win our last 5 games to show that we can in fact win matches and are a better side than the log shows #BringOnTheRestOfTheSeason!!
