Good morning guys
Well the first game of the season has come and gone. Just a few things to work on for our next game on Friday.
1. Use the boards more.
2. There is a time where we should slow the game down as well as time to give a quick ball from a 16.
3. Sometimes we were running into the same spaces
4. And just some general communication, give the early ball when it’s on and if you can’t go forward turn around and give it back.
17 January 2011
Venue: Wynberg Military Base
Opponents: Pinelands A
After a bit of back and forth in possession the first goal came out of nothing really courtesy of Bob “the Mexican” Hernandez. The only word to describe the look on his face after he scored was surprised…..so we can put that goal down to goal keeper error.
The first half was dominated by Mutual and after a surprising substitution which left Boogies upfront, Sixes must have had a malfunction with his stick because it looked like he was struggling to pass. So after making a run thru pretty much most of the Pinelands side and a one two with Boogies round the keeper, Sixes made an clinical finish into an open goal.
The rest of the half went by quite quickly with not much excitement besides the Pinelands boy receiving a custard.
Near the beginning of the second half Tosser found himself on the right with a bit of space, seeing Bob’s run towards the box(well technically it’s a jog) made the pass which took a nasty deflection off a Pinelands stick. Bob however composed himself and made the extra yard spinning the ball into the opponents net. This time the look of surprise was on the keepers face.
Towards the end of the game Pinelands with the help of the umpire had a late surge of penalty corners, converting two of them. Not even tactful chirping could change the umpires minds. After a few shocking blows 6-pack decided to take matters into his own hand and remind that Pinelands boy where the ground was….in his defence, he barely touched him. But the umpire thought differently handing out the second yellow of the match.
Mutual went into defensive mode holding Pinelands well.
I think Pinelands third goal also came off a penalty corner? With the same slip move?
Dead locked at 3-3, the last few minutes of the half were very fast paced, with us trying to slip in as much time wasting as possible. In the final moments of the game Pinelands were awarded a shorty, looking around our 1st and 2nd wave were on the bench. Being a fantastic swimmer, Bob volunteered for 1st wave and what can only be described as pure adrenaline Bob, sprinting across the goal and putting his body on the line put the necessary pressure on the attacker forcing his shot wide. The ball did eventually land up in the goal after coming off Imports stick but was disallowed.
Final Score Mutual 3 – 3 Pinelands
But I think that was a great result for us. Next up we have UCT A, which is gona be another tough match. For those of you that watched a bit of the game and were not making out in the shower you would have seen it will be another fast paced game.
