Argentina Touring Side - 20 02 2012

Rocking up at the field early to watch the ladies play their game, I noticed what looked like an army in blue warming up on the side of the astro. Wondering how many sides were playing tonight I was informed that that was their squad. Easily 30 players warming up #TellBasil while our guys casually sitting on the side talking kak. Unfortunately the ladies got a bit of a spanking (and not the good kind) if I recall correctly it was 7-1.

The guys then took to the field, a bit distracted by the Argentine ladies walking off the field. Mutual hockey club taking a great new approach to player selection which saw a 3rd team player starting off the game ahead of the usual starting team #toldthem. The game started off at a fast pace with our back seeing blue blurs all over the place. I wondered to myself that we must have really got the weakest South American to join Mutual. We conceded a short corner (by we I mean Import – not retreating 5 from the free hit), not thinking much of it until their drag flicker roofed the ball. We then decided that we should try not to give away any more shorties.

Nick ‘new boy’ Brown and I decided we should slow the game down working the trough quite well. The next Argentine attack saw a bit of a goal mouth scramble with Milky puling of what seemed like 50 saves, the ball eventually landing at the feet of their link and him very childishly roofing it as well. We started to wonder if these guys ever took a shot on the ground.

With mutual 2-0 down we got back into the game after a fantastic substitution change seeing Pablo come of (almost forgetting where he was and going to sit on their bench) and another new boy Gareth coming on. His first touch finding the goals. Probably to only contribution Pablo made all game. They got a third with an assist from Goose. Not seeing Milky pad the ball onto the attackers foot and the striker finishing from point blank range. Mutual 1 – 3 Pumas.

Half time we were all stunned when Suffix “Dear in headlights” actually spoke during the team talk. Not wanting to scare him off we all sat there quietly and listened to him. There wasn’t much happening in the second half. LG missing a sitter, with the keeper diving across his goals at full stretch padding away the weak attempt.

There was a break away down the left with Piles pulling the defender on his strong side slightly to the left of top-d. as the ball hi the circle Piles opening up and smashing it bottom right across the keeper into the far corner. Another great substitution with this being his second touch after coming on. Mutual 2 – 3 Pumas.
The second half turned into the world stick block championships with a few of their guys showing mad skills that ended up being quite childish. I watched as their #7 took on our whole side, including the bench and the spectators but they were unable to score a 4th goal.

The game ending Mutual 2 – 3 Pumas. Probably making trade of the season (No im not talking about trading The Raff for one of their players #TellHim) I managed to switch my shitty mutual oldschool vintage sleeved playing shirt for this one. Thank fuck the guy couldn’t speak English and tell me how disappointed he was that he wasn’t getting my wife beater. #winning!

Thinking that was to be the end of the night we all headed to our cars. Until someone mentioned going to the Green Buffallo (Formerly known as the Red Ox) for a quick one. These were again famous last words. A few beers, suitcase , a springbokkie and two plates of chips later john finally kicked us out. Bondi thoroughly enjoying what will later be referred to the chirp of the year/ decade and even century from the ever-wise Tosser. “With great penis, comes great responsibility” – you are welcome world.

Having a quick discussion why it was closing so early someone mentioned it was 2am. Wondering why no one had turned into a pumpkin yet I darted home and have no answer as to how I managed to get up this morning. (#ThePowerOfGreySkull is my only explanation.

It was a good night again for Mutual hockey. Final indoor game for the season for the mens 1s tomorrow, the side looking stronger than its previous 4 games because Bondi will be arriving late. #ToldHim
