09 February 2012
Venue: UCT
Opponents: Pandemonium
Morning once again from the news desk
So after a week break we were back on the blue turf of UCT and hoping to be in winning ways.
Of the issues raised in our last match report the guys probably realised I was right and improved this week (are there still coaching vacancies?)
Points to ponder this week:
1. Conversion rate in the circle better than before but still needs improvement
2. Short corner conversion needs work.
3. Whole team pushing past the half way line and allowing three man counter attack
So Speedbump sends out his weekly SMS to confirm players and till 14:00 today we had a full team with one sub, bearing in mind I was not meant to play. So at 14:00 Paul receives a call from Jordan's (aka Spud) mom to inform him that Spud will not be playing hockey tonight due to a lack of homework completion, let me point out that Spud went to watch SA play last night and neglected to finish his homework, causing his English teacher to call his mom! Can anyone say grounded.
So having lost one of their top goal scorers the team decided to go for experience and called me (Elsie) to the team, I was surprised to receive the late call up considering my lack of form in front of goal but hey if the 1's can keep Pablo, I'm sure we all deserve a chance.
Having a reffed a very intense ladies 3's game with the opposition ref being the guy with the dog (from conberg), he looked a little sad not to have his wife with him.
I started bench and the guys got the game under way, Bollie and Tampon were the refs for this encounter. How rusty got hold of Bollie is still a Mystery, he said he just bbm’d him but I’m not so sure Bollie knows how to use that function on his phone.
The teams were a little lob sided with pandemonium (per the thesaurus this also means CHAOS, appropriate hey?) on having 5 players on the field, we started the game off very well and within the first 2min we had our first goal, a slip done the boards to Daz 2 touches and then a low flick at the empty goals, Vikings 1-0 CHAOS.
Goal 2 came from a great stick tackle by Speed bump, not sure he knows any different, he got the loose ball and slid it past the defender into the goals Vikings 2-0 CHAOS.
The team pressed well and we held on to possession nicely when we had the ball, having the extra man insured that most of the time we were moving forward and creating chances, goal 3 came from a some good work from Bruce making a run from just on half way and dribbling past 2 or 3 defenders before laying it up for speedo to finish with an easy tap in. Vikings 3-0 CHAOS
After 8 or so minutes I was allowed onto the field replacing Speedbump who was huffing and puffing just like USA on hubbly. My presence was soon known when I flew into the D and picked up a nice assist from KFM who pushed it neatly through the gap for a nice platter (unlike the 1's - I finished). Vikings 4-0 CHAOS
(Tosser - Wow, bit harsh #toosoon?)
Out of nowhere we realised that tampon was actually umpiring the game and to our surprise he was holding a whistle, we realised it's the one Dorothy has been using so when he tried to blow the correct calls it just wouldn't work, so I had to get him mine (this helped a bit).
A free hit on our top D had KFM looking for a pass and found Speedbump lurking in the opposition D, a straight push through three players (PJ being one of them, I think his hair was in the way) and speedbump stopped it without lifting turned onto his back stick and pushed it towards goal, I stood looking at him wondering was that really a good decision to turn that way and after the game he agreed with the statement saying "WTF did I thinking, I were so scared I fought I were going to miss vat" Vikings 5-0 CHAOS
With CHAOS choosing not to have a goal keeper, the team realised it would be easy (#tellbasil) to be childish and flick everything when we shot at goal, to our benefit they couldn't stop them and this assisted our cause. Daz netting 2 more flicks and speedo 1 as well. Vikings 8-0 CHAOS
Chaos pushed but the defence held strong and we kept them out for a while, but Lance on one of his stick block runs pulled two players and then the keeper before flipping a cheeky back stick flick over the approaching keeper Vikings 8-1 CHAOS
Now that DAZ was on 3 and Speedbump pushing for his 3rd, I stepped up and got a glory ball through from the left side I held my composure and softly popped the ball in Vikings 9-1 CHAOS, Speedbump eventually realising his hatrick with the next movement got a nice slip pass from daz while open and Vikings were marching on Vikings 10-1 CHAOS
With less than 2 minutes to we got a short corner, me being the greedy guy I am, I begged to take the shorty, (some people never change) pass out was perfect but after the flick I realised I have been spending too much time with Bob, thank goodness Bruce was there to save the day and got us another short corner, fortunately my team is like the 1's and they believe in letting a guy have a second chance (#toosoon), this time my flick was a bit better and got off the ground, I scored to get my hatrick, I celebrated like a mad man but stopped myself from diving on the turf. Vikings 11-1 CHAOS
All in all a good performance and hopefully a picture of the season to come, still another 5 games to go!
Final Score Vikings 11-1 CHAOS

Did he just use my real name??? Elsie 2 fingers
ReplyDeleteAfter careful analysis it seems like your accusation is in fact true
ReplyDelete"So at 14:00 Paul receives a call from Jordan's (aka Spud) mom"
In accordance with the "Buffalo Rules" blog - Tuesday, 29 November 2011 it clearly stated the following:
Wrong Name:If you know someone's nickname, use it. Consume 2 fingers of your beverage for every use of their real name.
My question is that since this is written, does Els have to consume two-fingers every time someone reads it? I have read it 15 times....#justsaying
Online Expense Tracking nice post to read and learn.
