Morning ladies and gentlemen (apparently)
Last night was a derby match between the Vikings and the Titans, two MCUPT sides who felt that they would make it interesting and make their own names.
There was a lot of hype around this fixture and as was expected the start of the game was flat, too much was made of it and I personally think the players on the field were trying too hard. (I was on the bench).
Points to ponder:
1. After a good game last week and too much trash talk we allowed the Titans to get the better of us mentally, (titans average age 20, Vikings average age 28) I think it was the primary school kids!
2. Good half time talk where the everyone said something and we all listened and actually followed through with them,
3. Stop letting the raffs dictate our mood no matter how shocking they are or we think they are.
4. Better second half on the cheese grater and ensuring we kept the ball down.

Opposition – The Titans
As always Derby games have the small bits of smack talk and laughs at the other teams expense, this match was no different except other than shooter making a comment on his previous match report, the only Titans person chirping was sonic, I suppose on average she is probably taller than most of the titans players but I expected a little more from the boys, maybe next time they can take some pointers from their bigger sister!
We however were trying our best to get them to say something anything!
While I was kitting up the game started so what I write here is all hearsay and I cannot be held responsible!
At the toss Speedbump walked up and found out exactly why shooter got his nickname getting a shot straight in the eye. After this Speedbump said you get the ball and ran to the bathroom to wash his face.
The game started with Vis blowing the whistle, I was certain that Dorathy was meant to ref but after the game shooter explained that he had decided against it because if he had let him ref he would probably blow so that Bellville would win. I understood.
Bruce centred off and according to sources (Shooter - not so reliable) he chased down his pass like a mad man, after this the ball moved from one side of the field to the other with no real impetus (momentum for the Edgemead people), after a number of runs by both sides which were unfruitful Speedbump and Daz linked up to get our first short corner!
Speedbump being the great captain he is put Daz up for the first shorty, was sure KFM’s lip was quivering (not sure if it was from not being allowed to take shorty or if it was cause of the raw energy he was running around with) the push out was flawless and Daz stopped cleanly and flick to the left of the keeper no chance! Vikings 1 – 0 Titans
The first was a scrappy affair for all involved in the Vikings opinion even the raffs were not doings so good!
A couple highlights from this half included, Tombraider getting agro with Daz for standing on his stick and attempting to push Daz out the door (3 metres away),
KFM groaning every time Vis or Bollie blowing the whistle and pointing in the wrong direction!
Tim pulling a tight ball over the baseline on his way to goal, disappointing after a good move.
Bruce trying to pull a Goose and hit the ball out the back when he had two defenders set and BLOCKing him in, and Vis subsequently blowing a short corner.
Vis blowing a short corner after the ball hit KFM on the glove and after the game telling KFM he can’t play in white boots in indoor cause it clashes with the ball (after a sheepish look to the left and everyone explaining the ball is yellow and shouldn’t really make a difference he conceded to his mistake!!) raff would never have admitted he was wrong #tellhim
The first half ended with both teams wondering where the time had gone and hoping that the second half would be better.
Half time talk everyone said something and we all listened (miracles do happen).
Second half started with me on the bench, again not a bad thing cause we scored two in this period.
Goal #2 was a well worked move from a 16, KFM (who feels he must take every free hit) took a self-pass and walked the ball up a few yards drawing in the striker and laying it off to Bruce in the middle, the titans allowing way too much gave Bruce enough room to turn look up and find Daz crossing the D and running into the far corner, Daz drawing his defender before slipping an easy pass to Speedbump standing just off p spot for an easy tap in #tellbasil. Viking 2 – 0 Titans
The Titans were not ready to be put down and fought hard to get back into the game and forced a number of short corners. Knowing that their strength relied heavily on short corners we decided to take a play out of the 1’s playbook and give them as many short corners as they needed. #toosoon
After numerous short corners and me being off the field shooter was able to pull one back with a flick into the bottom left corner (no post man to be seen) Vikings 2 – 1 Titans
After another set of pushing too hard or lifting passes and possession switching from one side to the other Bruce found himself in a scoring position and after his shot was stopped by the keeper before he pushed it on to Daz’s stick and Daz roofed it from a metre out, the poor ginger keeper was devastated and when he swung his stick in disgust I think he almost hit mini. Vikings 3 – 1 Titans.
Speedbump huffing again came running off the field and called me on, while Daz had called on puppy, the new striking partnership yielded dividends almost instantly with Puppy receiving a pass to the left of the D and pushing it directly at the keeper, the keeper decided to stand on the ball so he could compose himself and kick it away, what he failed to realise was that I was standing right next to him and had an easy #tellbasil push in! Vikings 4 – 1 Titans.
From the centre off the Titans showed their intentions and pushed into our D forcing another Short corner #3000 for the night, KFM being the culprit! Shooter standing receiver and flicked the ball low and hard fortunately clipping my stick. Flying up into the air Bollie called it dangerous but it’s not my fault that the guy wasn’t watching the ball and when it came down it almost hit him! Another short corner this time I lost my head and did a footloose running to the half way line and forgetting that I was meant to stop by the flicker, unfortunately my back up couldn’t do their job and stop the goal. Vikings 4 – 2 Titans
Again possession changed hands a number of times due to various indiscretions by the raffs, we were not impressed and I was sure that they were trying to outdo one another for the most obscure call, honestly I think they were waiting for someone to do some leopard crawling so they could wave play on! #tellraff
Surprisingly we gave away another short corner, clearly the defence felt that the game needed to get more interesting, this time Sting deciding to run 1st wave, I think shooter almost peed a little he was so excited, he pulled the ball around the keeper around the 2nd wave and childishly flicked it at me, in my attempt to stop the ball Bollie style (body stop) I pushed my ass out but it was not big enough to stop it, (only time I wish I had Tosser's ass). Vikings 4 – 3 Titans.
The last couple of minutes were rather interesting with both teams pushing hard to get another goal, as well as Speedbump taking out Tombraiders leg leaving the reverend, lying on the floor crying on pain, I think he must have watched the afcon final last night cause he limped of the field only to come back on 30 seconds later running just fine. The Titans tried a new tactic by pushing to top D and sending glory balls, of the 6 he got I think he stopped on below knee height, (cheese grater not fun!).
We went forward on the counter attack and daz pulling the ball of the boards and pushing it across the keeper for the simplest of push ins for Speedo. Vikings 5 – 3 Titans.
Both teams seemed knackered and just played the game out, waiting for the other team to make a mistake! The final whistle blew and there were smiles all around!

After all the hype it would have been expected to be a tight game and it did not fail, Vikings came out on top and are now top of the log with 4 games to go.
