Great first half guys, pretty much ended the game with 20minutes left to play. Could someone please send AJ that gift basket because without him…he made this victory a certainty. #TellHim. Last game of the season coming up. Few things we have to take note of:
1. Pearton, the best thing you brought to the game was ‘Freeze’ I didn’t gain enough speed to make it work. But I think we should use the same thing on Sunday.
2. It’s good to see platter season has come back to Mutual.
08 February 2012
Venue: Sunningdale
Opponents: Conberg
Vis continued his streak of not winning a toss all season. I’m sure this is a new record for Mutual. But Conberg lost the toss and this proved to be a reoccurring theme in the game that was to follow. With the Tri-fector starting proceedings, Vis made a darting run into the D. Offloading the ball to Tosser and making a slightly obstructive run. Tosser collected the ball and smashing it, finding Pablo lurking on the boarder….I mean baseline. First platter of the game. Mutual 1 - 0 Conberg.
We then let Conberg throw the ball around a bit so that they could build up their confidence, so that we could tear them down again. The Selector(s) choice must be acknowledged again as Piles (after recovering from him UWI) slipped the ball past the keeper for Vis to get an easy #TellBasil tap in. Mutual 2 - 0 Conberg.
The goal scorer then turned provider, it was definitely good to see the Chef back at work. Chef breaking into the D at pace, drawing atleast two defenders and even the keeper (Who by the way made more tackles than both his backs combined) then laying off a perfect platter for Tosser to finish off. Mutual 3 - 0 Conberg.
Chef wasn’t finished there. Again whipping (or wait Pablo is it supposed to be wipping?) another ball across the face of the goals for Suffix to murder into the net. Extending our lead, Mutual 4 - 0 Conberg.
A short while later, after Tosser was given a ‘klap’ by the keeper after he slide in behind me, turning with the ball and jogging (really fast) baseline. There seemed to be a little Bastick on my shoulder shouting SHOOT in my ear. As much as I wanted to slip the ball to send a platter over to Vis, it just couldn’t be done. The ball sailing into the side netting. Chef seemed like a Verimark TV ad during the game….But wait, there’s more! Returning the favour to (His selection #TellHim) Piles for his earlier platter. Mutual 5 - 0 Conberg.
Bondi running down the left of the field pulls off three massive steps that would have made Digby Ioane prowd. After a slight hand off he lays the ball across the p-spot to Piles, no way he could have missed it….o-wait. He slapped it in, goal disallowed. #PilesFail. I didn’t even realise Piles could generate that much power in his weak wrists to actually slap the ball. But I was wrong. Conberg had a counter attack shortly after and we all fell asleep a bit. A bit of a goal mouth scramble and they were awarded nothing more than a consolation goal. Mutual 5 - 1 Conberg.
Near to the end of the half, Tosser recovering the ball on the boards slips it along the boards to Pablo who (he says he set up a platter but we all know this was a lie, he was later fined for this comment) missed stopped it into the path of Tosser. Still having a lot to do, he took one step left to widen his angle and slotting the ball into the side netting. Mutual 6 - 1 Conberg.
After his second Tosser was feeling a little invincible, running across the D to collect the ball he took the form of a gazelle. Moving at speeds which can only be described as a sprint. Realising that the momentum he has worked up would probably take him thru the wall, he made a graceful slide (burning a line on Vis’ new socks – yeah that’s the type of speed he got up to) Getting to his feet before playing the ball and nuttying the first defender and pushing it onto the next defenders foot. Sven had no choice but to blow him up for too much skill. Conberg moans also help by saying that he wasn’t allowed to take on two players at once.
And with that half time was called. I now know what WPCC B felt like on Sunday at half time. There was no tactful chirping during this half time, no one was having a mare.
We had a slow start to the second half. Conberg deciding not to press us at all. At one stage it seemed like Boogies went into bullet-time. He just sat there not moving and Conberg seemed too afraid to attempt to tackle them. That’s a bold strategy Cotton, lets see how that works out for them. A great wat to play when you are 5 goals down. Then it was goal time again, Vis receiving an amazing square pass from Piles after re made a run down the right, Vis finishing it off from top D. Mutual 7 - 1 Conberg.
We got our first shorty in a while and after a discussion at top D, I was informed that Bondi could stop. When setting up for the stop I saw him immediately start shaking his head saying ‘what were you thinking”, the push out came and surprise, Bondi missed it. #BondiFail
Bollie not wanting to move away from tradition decided to give away a p-flick to test Peaton (the new cap) this in his defence (Which for once we actually had) was after Suffix took a ball to the chest a meter outside the goals, what he was doing that far out we still don’t know. Pearton setting up for a flick and after telling us how amazing he was at reading where the striker would flick actually went the right way. But it seems he should stand behind the goals at p-flicks and tell keepers where to go. Because although he knew exactly where the ball was going. He didn’t save it. Mutual 7 - 2 Conberg.
With a the tackles getting harder and harder Piles saw himself breaking into the circle. The keeper ending up sitting on the ball and after some careful video analysis on a blackberry we say that Piles actually did some dirty boxing on the top D with Jumbo. Jumbo reacting like someone had broken his nail and crying like what can only be described as a little bitch. Having the chance to get a revenge flick, Tosser sent a very average bobbler at bottom right to be saved off the line.
With Bondi making a sneaky substitution and no one realising the entire short corner side was on the bench until we were given a short corner. Bondi was seen on his knees begging Vis to give him a chance. I have no idea what was going thru Vis’ mind but we ended up with Bondi on the top D about to flick. What we say next if recorded on a cellphone, you would have watched more footage than the Lord of the Rings movie of his flick rolling and bobbling in. It took so long for that ball to cross the line. But eventually it did, I think the umpires went behind the goals and actually pushed the goals forward to hurry up the game so that they could signal the goal. Mutual 8 - 2 Conberg.
Final Score Mutual 8 - 2 Conberg
Next Game:
Sunday 12th @ 16h00 vs WPCC A
Last game of the indoor season coming up on Sunday. Much better performance last night. Let’s keep it up. Connieberg have secured a new sponsorship after this game, Choice will be printing them new playing tops. So some good came out of this for them. There was also some still competition from Vaseline. #tellthem
