Indoor Game Week #4 - WPCC A (1's)

Good end to the round robin half of of the season
1.       The amazing diagonal ball we have been playing all season that never works – time to stop it.
2.       There was a lot less dribbling this match, but there could be even less.
3.       Glory boys….Bondi would like to remain anonymous #TellHim. Bondi broke a record this week for most shots from a bad angle/baseline breaking Basticks record.
4.       Please don’t go out huge the night before a match……..I think it would be easier to forfeit Sundays match. What’s got two thumbs and is having his bachelors on Saturday #ThisGuy! Someone bring a bucket to the field.

12 February 2012
Venue: Sunningdale
Opponents: WPCC A

Firstly we would just like to say congrats to Suffix who has been selected for the WP Indoor Squad as well as Bondi as he continues his run of non-playing, no kit, non-travelling reserve. #toosoon?

We started off the day in high spirits, arriving on time as usual *cough* bullshit *cough. Since the lift club fairies all drive in together, they are also all late together #iBlameBollie. And since Pearton failed at one of his two tasks (His tasks being 1. Keep the goals out, 2. Bring Freeze for our shoes – yes this actually works, stops us doing the running man) by forgetting the Freeze at home. We hoped this meant that he would e having a clean sheet today.

Vis as always used his intimidation to force the WPCC captain to make the wrong call at the coin toss (Vis still without a win off the coin toss, a new record for a captain. I’m sure Rusty could even win a coin toss #TellHim) The game started at a very high tempo with both teams wanting to force their dominance. The first few minutes went so slowly thou as I realised after substituting myself that it had only been 4 minutes. But this only meant we were rotating more often and pushing the pace since WPCC were stupid enough to come to the game with one sub. This was proven when one of the defenders tried to scribble Vis ‘Highlander’ McPlatter, Vis dispossessed theWPCC burst into the circle and easily slipping it past the keeper to maintain his lead at the top of the goal scoring sheet. Easy as that #TellBasil. Mutual 1-0 WPCC A.

With the first goal in the bag, we felt momentum switch into our favour. First short corner was a mix up on the top D with Tosser changing his mind about slipping the ball when he say the keeper ran out slightly to the left. The ball ended up hitting the keeper in the chest. The second shorty he learnt from his mistake, picking up the ball with one target in his mind. Taking a step to the right and flinging the ball into the bottom corner. Mutual 2-0 WPCC A.

We seemed to be dictating play now. Allowing WPCC to hold the ball in defence knowing that they had to try to force the attack because they were two goals down. This proved to be a well worked plan as we capitalised on their mistakes which found Bondi with acres of space. Being selfish again and taking a shot straight into the keeper, he collected the rebound and with the keeper out of position slipped the ball past him with his reverse stick. I suppose Bondi doesn’t go for shooting/goal ratio. He goes with the #GooseRatio (ask enough girls *not women* out and one of them is bound to say yes) having said this, Bondi’s 4th attempt from the side line went in. Mutual 3-0 WPCC A.

Boogies then seeing Piles running some great lines and probably his only diagonal pass to get through the weak WPCC press, saw his only assist stolen by Pablo’s missed stop. Slowing the ball down for Piles to pick up on the run and as always nutty the keeper. Piles always liking to go thru the keeper instread of around him like Vis would or straight into him like Pablo does from the P-spot. #JustWentThereAgain. Mutual 4-0 WPCC A.

With half time looming, Boogies thought that this game seemed to be too one sided. Taking a 16 quickly from baseline, he saw his opportunity for an assist. Giving a fantastic diagonal ball to the WPCC striker sitting at top-D, forfeiting our clean sheet. Pearton learning to love these 2 on 1s. Mutual 4-1 WPCC A.

Realising that we were clearly controlling the game, the usual tact was not thrown around during the half-time team talk. There seemed to be a lot of encouraging. This probably was not the right thing to do. Our usual routine had been broken and we started the second half not knowing what was going on. Boogies with his second assist of the game much like he had ended the first half helping WPCC to get back into the game. Losing possession and creating a great 2 on 1. Mutual 4-2 WPCC A.

We seemed to be on the back foot now. We seemed to switch into defensive mode. WPCC making an average move down the boards, somehow getting into the circle and slipping it past Pearton on his near post. Mutual 4-3 WPCC A.

Things were not looking good. They got a short corner and Bollie not wanting to disappoint extended his record for most assists (flicks conceded) WPCC, Mutual and all the spectators surprised there was no card shown. Pearton keeping up his 100% ratio of flicks (gone the right way/misses). Mutual 4-4 WPCC A.

With our second draw of the season eminent we threw everything in at the closing stages of the game. Bondi finding himself in space down the left, beating one player and selfishly again winging the ball past the keeper. With his second goal of the game and making his selector(s) proud he not only scored the winner but proved that the #GooseRatio might actually work. Mutual 5-4 WPCC A.

But I don’t think that this ratio works for p-flicks #TellPablo.

Final Score Mutual 5 - 4 WPCC A
Next Game:
Sunday 19th @ Sunningdale
Time: TBC (20h00)
Opponents: TBC (Conberg)

A great victory ending us (by my calculations) 6th on the log. This means that we will be up against Conberg this Sunday. Just waiting for the union to confirm the fixture. We enjoyed a few celebratory beers after the game. Bollie checking out the UCT ladies indoor side about to play, thinking that if they all had their own car he could be parked in for a week.

Thanks to all the supporters that came down. Last time we had that many supporters we all had to go to therapy because of WPCC B. We seemed to have lifted the supporters curse.

Yours in awesomeness
Tosser
