Indoor Game Week #6 vs. UCT A (1's)

Good morning guys

Well done guys on another great season. Ending 6^th in M1. A few things to remember about hockey in general moving into winter league

1.       It’s a team sport. Chopping and changing players as you see fit is not fair on the other players in the team. #CaseClosed

When I was informed by Bollie the morning of the match that he was sick with jungle fever  thought that we would just go thru to the game with one less sub. Bondi informed us on Sunday that he would be a few minutes late (rather him than his sister otherwise I would be in trouble) but this was fine as we could do fine with one sub for 5 minutes. Then on the way home the fun started, Vis pulling out to go ‘watch’ a match decided that LG would take his place. Arriving at the field and seeing Pablo, he got the times mixed up so for once he was early, Pearton tells me that he can’t play either. But he appointed himself to organise a replacement as well. We then saw Rudi Hysamen walking towards us, gracing the shores of SA for the first time in 3 years. I must say a rusty Rudi is better than an inform Pearton. #TellHim.

But seeing Fridge with a mutual top on expecting to play was going too far. (OUT he wanted to play out) LG who was Vis’ replacement was late, apparently driving over the pass from Durbanville was a bit Rocky….hopefully she isn’t late as well. So we decided that rather putting Fridge on our bench we would play iron man (all players on the field and no subs) until LG arrived.

Looks like more action happened before the match than in the actual match. Selecting Piles as captain, he went up to toss. 100% record he can now claim when a coin is flipped. We took to the field trying to hold up the game as long as we could so that our subs could arrive. If I could describe our press it would be 1/8 press. That’s how far back we were. We traded blows for the first 5 minutes, then had a mix up at the back as the defenders were switching and a UCT river ball found their striker on the post to slip it in. Mutual 0 – 1 UCT A.

LG finally arrived, many of the guys unable to even run off the field because their legs couldn’t move. The second goal from UCT came after some amazing one-two play, all of us just sitting back and admiring their play. I’m sure I saw Boogies applaud. Mutual 0 – 2 UCT A.

We get our first shorty of the match with high hopes. Not only does the push out come out slow and bobbling, but for some reason Piles pushes the ball to LG who is standing alone to the left of the castle. He was even more surprised than we were when he got the ball. He sent some type of upward scoopy shot straight at the keeper and the ball was knocked away. #LGFail. Receiving the ball on the left of the field, Tosser closed his eyes and basically smashed the shit out of the ball. The UCT defender pulling off a vintage #ImportLeave saw the ball roll straight to Piles who deflected in for our first goal. #YourWelcome. Mutual 1 – 2 UCT A.

With half time looming the somehow scored a ghost goal, or Unicorn as Piles referred to it. I have asked 3 people and no one seems to remember the goal. But umpires seemed to agree on the score. Mutual 1 – 3 UCT A.

The only thing that really happened at the team talk was Bondi whispering to me, ‘Who the fuck is this guy’, to which I reply ‘Rudi Hysamen’ – The look on Bondi’s face when he finally realised who was playing keeper for us was brilliant.

Most of the second half was actually quite boring to watch ….from the half way line. UCT throwing river ball after river ball. We had a few good moves, and im sure Bondi shot from the baseline again. But after Tosser received a ball from Bollie o-wait, I meant Vis o-wait…….it was probably Suffix, smashing a ball with

Vemon towards Bondi running top-D. Closing his eyes Bondi made enough contact for the ball to his the side netting, keeper not even smelling it. #YourWelcome (although I take credit for the pace of that ball) Mutual 2 – 3 UCT A.

I don’t even want to talk about their last goal. Their defender ran into the circle and wounded rabbited a shot into the corner, unfortunately Rudi’s foot gripped on the floor. Was really just unlucky. (I think they sprayed the whole floor with deep heat because there was plenty of grip on that floor last night) Mutual 2 – 4 UCT A.

Missing out two key players from our side against an unchanged UCT A side, all in all it was a good performance by the boys in green and blue ending the season 6^th.

In other news could we have a moment of silence for Connieberg, maybe they rest in pieces…..in M2 #toosoon?

And in the final, well done to WPCC who ended up and league champions. WPCC B 3 – 2 Pinelands (I think – well there was a goal difference)
