Winter League Game Week #1 - vs White Stripes (Mens 6s - Sexual Sixes)

After an uneventful preseason and seeing some new players join the ranks in the higher sides I was pleased that I may field a full side on my first outing as coach.

Points to ponder:

1.       As with all first games the total and utter lack of fitness was easy to see, Monday nights will never be the same again with our own in-house ETA graduate taking the boys for 45 Minutes of fitness and strength training.
2.       Supporters were more vocal then our entire side, If you don’t talk no one knows you there.
3.       When you swing the stick make sure you hit the ball, (Grego we will discuss this at practice)
4.       When the supporters tell you to slow the game done clearly we trying to do things too quickly.
5.       On a positive note, the second half defence was far better than the first, and we will get through it.

Venue – De Kuilen High School
Opposition – White Stripes

On finding out who our first game was I realised that this game was going to be a toughie and that a side who had never played together before was going to have a difficult run in, I had 7 Debutants on the Day, of which 2 of them were 13 and 12 years old, interesting situations.

Game started completely against the tilt and we had good possession for at least the first five minutes, winning our first short corner with in 2. We placed a lot of pressure on their links and backs but couldn’t penetrate the D.

The white stripes slowly pulled themselves back into the game and an unfortunate set of bounces on the grass field put them in on goal and we were down SS 0 – 1 WS
A second quick goal exploited the lack of cleaning off the keepers pads.
As the half progressed our boys seem to get more tired and I was counting the seconds for half time so they could get a break.
We conceded another before half time.

Halftime SS 0 – 3 WS,

A couple positional changes at half time created some impotis and the boys had some added excitement, we had a number of go forward chances and more than double the shots on goal then the first half, however against the run of play we conceded again leaving us to chase four, but based on the improvement of the play in the second half the boys looked in good shape.

With two minutes to go the defence found themselves wondering up field and leaving Lucas with a 3 on one situation which he almost smothered. But alas they scored.

Game ending Sexual Sixes (reborn) 0 – 5 White Stripes

The after match chat showed more excitement about the great second half, then sadness about the loss, with two of the players coming back into the side next week and the potential for more new players the boys are excited about their prospects for the season.

What would a Mutual team be if they never picked on the New guys. Game of life learn it!
