This
weekend saw the 2s facing stronger opposition in the form of the UCT 3rd
side, however our ranks had been bolstered by Boogs, Bob and the return of
Sparky (Oh and the Raff taking a sabbatical) (Tosser - so the team was alot stronger with Raff out having his hysterectomy). Yet another slow start saw UCT
grab a soft early goal after they dominated the opening 5 minutes. We then got
our act together and found our rhythm and started to play some very good
hockey.
Patches dominating up the right flank saw a few chances created for us
but we couldn’t find the back of the net. As Mutual continued to push forward,
a UCT player got frustrated and decided to have a go at Dutch (I thought UCT
students are intelligent, should have had a go at Bastick rather than the
biggest and most Afrikaans oke in our team) which resulted in him getting a
good serving of custard. A few minutes later UCT got a green as well which saw
them 2 men down, but even with the 2 man advantage we still couldn’t score. The
culprits being Vis and Patches, with them missing relatively simple chances.
With Mutual pushing forward, UCT was causing trouble with their counter attack
but some solid defence kept them from scoring. The half ended 1 – 0 to UCT. The
second half began as the first ended, with Mutual dominating but not being able
to score. It was then our turn to get some cards with Sparky picking up a green
and Mo a lil Halal custard. It seemed to make no difference as we still
dominated possession and the UCT side seemed to have lost the plot when their
forwards decided to take each other out in spectacular fashion and their
captain decided he was keen on some custard too, but despite this we still
couldn’t score with Shooter missing an absolute sitter from a shorty and Ninja
a one on one being the worst of the misses. UCT’s counter attacking finally
caught us napping as they added a second.
This made no difference to us as we
continued to attempt to find a way through the defence which eventually came
through a neatly executed zig zag shorty which Bob slotted. 2 – 1 to UCT with 5
minutes to go. We then put everything towards getting the draw and a few
seconds left on the clock it looked as if Vis was gonna work some
magic..........but he got tackled before getting into the D (Fail! I’m
beginning to see why he got dropped). So it ended in a 1 – 2 loss for the
Mutual 2s, however there are plenty of positives to take away from the result
namely the fact that we are dominating play and we’re scoring shorties (very
unlike Mutual) we just need to work on our finishing and taking our chances and
we will start to see results.
Result: Mutual 2s 1 – UCT A 2
