Another week has passed for the Mutual
ladies being in LGC and thank that Pope this week’s game was not a walk over
compared to last week. With the final score only being 3-0 I believe we gave
Durbanville a run for their money. They clearly did not expect us to stand up
to them. What makes me say that, you ask? Well maybe because in the last 5 min
left of the game Durbanville decided to take their keeper off and replaced her
with a field player. Unfortunately….. for them that is, (LOL) they didn’t score
after that. What can I say, us Mutual ladies know how to take abuse and no
matter how much anyone knocks us down, we will get up again.
With this game being my 1st GC
game I am finding it hard to recall what actually happened. Maybe because I was
expecting to play my worst game ever. Even though my lungs were burning and my
heart felt like it was going to jump out of my chest because the strikers I was
defending clearly had rockets shoved up their….. (sorry, I’ll keep it PG13),
our team still played as a unit. (Tosser - hehehe you said 'Unit') As most of
the first half went by in a blur one thing I do remember is the great
communication that happening in the back line.
I instinctively remember the
moment in the first half when I finally ‘woke up’ and started remembering. It
was when a Durbanville striker pumped the ball into the D only to be
intercepted by Snail. The ball deflected off her stick at my face and if it
wasn’t for my lightening fast reflex action, my face would have look like a
pancake. ‘ So Thanks Snaily, for scaring me out of the Twilight Zone J”
two things that I forgot to add to last weeks game report was Dani’s (Patella)
attempt at entering the Gymastic Team with a crazy tumble movement that buffled
the entire team. Funny thing is, it was accidental and caused by herself.
Second thing was Snail’s phenomenal stop of the ball as it came flying in her
direction, only to be followed by her playing that ball onto her foot. *Face
Palm* so in the ladies first side we have named that moved so if ever you
see someone do it, you can say: She/he S’nailed it!!!
The one thing I loved about this game was
the fact that even though it was a defensive game… on our part… our links and
strikers tried their best to work back and assist the halves with defense. When
“WE” had breakaways up the left, (and by WE I mean the link wing and left link
and me in spirit because my legs felt like lead at that point and needed some
recovery time), we found it difficult to get into the D because it was being
guarded like the Philosopher Stone in Harry Potter.
There is nothing more I can really say
about the game other than the fact that we missed our Captain, Bridge. That is
was great having Worm back in the Box and for me, great to be back on the turf
playing for the Club I Love. And lets not forget about our faithful Supporters
that came all the way to Durbanville. Passport control had their hands full.
Special thanks to Gagger/Deep-Throat (Tosser - shotgun) for being the teams Taxi driver for the
day! Much appreciated, even though she baled on us when we needed you the most…
(In All the ‘down-downs’ during Fines)!
Final Result: Mutual 0 - 3 Durbanville
