Good morning guys
The thorough bred 3s are still unbeaten
1. Short
corner conversion rate. #ToldMe
2. Again
some biased umpiring robbed us of our clean sheet.
3. We
pushed well for a bonus point and got it. Next goal is to have a clean sheet.
05 May 2012
Venue: Mutual
Opponents: Fishhoek
The unbeaten 3s were back in action this week looking to cement
their place at the top of M4. The day started off well with the
captain/coach/superhero walking up to the middle for the toss and winning it.
Makes it 3 from 3 for the season.
Vis always liking a ‘close’ match (He says is for the
spectators). Decides that the 1st team are more important than the
3s……This has been noted for fines. – Sherman get out your little black book.
He arrives 10 minutes into the first half and hadn’t kitted
up yet. Tosser being forced to start as kicking back, but he was as useful as
his dragflicks during this period (Looked in the mirror and #ToldMe) Demon
upping his game and pulling off two, YES I only saw two saves just off the
line. This kept us in the game for our subs and keeper to arrive.
Special mention must go to Winders who was only 15minutes
late for this game, I and still getting the hang of ‘African Time’ – it is a
new thing for me. Gray was also a little late, so by the time he rocked up our
boys were tired and wanting to make the first substitutions of the game. A
little later on ‘Bubble-boy’ Pete seemed to have a little trouble with his legs
again so he took a well-deserved breather.
We seemed to absorb the pressure like a sponge and after
finally having Vis come onto the field and switching around formation so we
looked like a normal side we were ready to attack. We took our normal mind set
for the match and completely dominated Fishhoek. Setting up camp in their half
of the field for the remainder of the game there were a couple of chance that
went amiss. Most noticeable were the short corners, one save by the postman and
another from the 1st wave.
The pressure was mounting on Fishhoek and the break thru
eventually came. Picking up a deflection off a defender, PJ pounced onto the
ball and slipped it past the keeper to far post. Mutual 1 – 0 Fishhoek.
Moments later just before the end of the half. Almost out
whole team is shouting at Caveman to play the ball in and his is just merrily
strolling around with the ball between the 25 and the half way line. Eventually
Smashing the ball into the circle which found a Mutual stick. The deflection
was saved but PJ was waiting there like a hyena. He started spinning in circles
with the ball until the keeper had no other option but to fall over and PJ
calmly popped the ball over his shoulder. Mutual 2 – 0 Fishhoek.
Half time was spent talking about how important our first
bonus point of the season would be. We needed to push hard for it. Everyone
agreed and we took the field for the second half of the game. Fishhoek now
playing into the sun, this is what winning the toss does for your side, you are
welcome 3’s.
The second half started pretty much the same as the first
half did with us sitting back and letting Fishhoek attack for a while, yet
still controlling the game. A few decent runs buy the boys upfront saw some
massive gabs for Tosser to throw over head into. (Technically all the over
heads are head height, but I get away with it so its fine). Winders picking up the ball and playing a
classic 1-2 with Blake in the opposition half. Showing off his pace with his
steeple chase running style Winders rounded the prop of a defender on the
baseline. The keeper had no choice but to commit and for once Winders laid off
the ball to Spud, who had a simple tap in on his reverse side to score a well
worked goal.Spud breaking his Club-ginity to make it Mutual 3 – 0 Fishhoek.
It was time for our ginger ninja to get involved. Blake
finding himself p-spot and swiping at a ball that was smashed in by Benji.
Nominated for 1-time and goal of the season so far with the ball crashing into
the top left of the goals. That’s 3 from 3 games for him making the score Mutual
4 – 0 Fishhoek.
Then we started to push hard for the bonus point, knowing
one more goal would secure our first bonus points of the season. PJ finding
himself in a little space in the circle and for once not belting the ball at
goals. He found the stick of Spud who calmly popped it over a diving keeper.
Mutual 5 – 0 Fishhoek.
We were on track for a bonus point. But again short corners
were letting #ToldMe. We were desperate, even trying to go for a straight poke
with Gray as our hitter. Almost giving up and wanting the to slow the game down
until the final whistle, Caveman finding himself in some space on top D. With
some fast hand moving past 2 of the Fishhoek props he finds the back of the
goals with a hard push into the corner. Mutual 6 – 0 Fishhoek.
As is customary in our league, the umpires started to get
involved. After a few questionable short corners which were well defended came
a moment of brilliance from the guy with the whistle. On a Mutual 16, a ball
was pushed onto the Fishhoek strikers foot (Lets call him Knob for future
reference) The umpire judged the ball to somehow be lifted and Knob takes the
hit straight away, from the edge of the D. Which was also a bad call. So he ran
from the edge of the D, out side the 5 yard dotted circle and then smashed the
ball in. After a bit of a goal mouth scramble, they got a consolation goal.
Mutual 6 – 1 Fishhoek.
A scrappy last few minutes saw us hold onto our 5 goal
advantage and gain a bonus point from the game. The boys are starting to gel.
And get reasonably fit, a few strikers were pub fit but they were finding that
running around for 70min without beer a little less tough than before.
Final Score Mutual 6 – 1 Fishhoek
Next Game:
Saturday 12th May @ UCT
Time: 19h30
Opponents: Fishhoek
First bonus points for the season. Good job boys. Still
waiting for Scooter to start firing. Lol. Unfortunately we will have to wait
another week for our time at the top of the log. UCT and VD Stel are above us
having played more games than us. But with UCT this weekend that could all
change.
Yours in awesomeness
Tosser
