Opponents: Pioneers

Starting off the week 3 fixtures, we saw the 4th team
ladies taking on Pioneers. The match being scheduled for 7pm, the mutual ladies
were eager to get their game faces on, and were down at the astro at 6pm for a
team strategy session a good warm up session, because as you will see in the
match report, warming up before taking on a game in what feels like the Arctic
circle, is very important. Also the fact that 2 of their players had to be
subbed due to cramps. Shame one had to go off due to possible torn ligaments.
Now that's a bummer.
So, my 1st point, Mutual was nice and early to the field,
and by 18:55 pm, still no opposition though. Pioneers eventually rocking up at
around 19:04pm, asked for a grace period for their players to gradually stroll
down and warm up. They were not even fully kitted. Sigh, clearly punctuality is
not in their vocab. We agreed to start late, but bearing in mind that this
would quickly be turned into them forfeiting the match if we had to lose the
match.
So, as the match eventually got underway, so started the most frustrating 69 minutes, and 45
seconds of my life!
The ladies 4s were dominating the match, but for some or
other reason, we just could not get the goals in the D when we were attacking.
With many close attempts, it got so frustratingly close at a point!
Some good things about the game, was the ladies use of
taking the ball out wide, and then into the middle, then back out wide, really
making the Pioneers run!
Back to the 69 minutes and 45 seconds of extremely
frustrating play. As the seconds were ticking down to a close, with both teams
on 0-0, Mutual seemed to break away with the ball, and make a run for the D,
with a massive amount of Pioneers players in the D, blocking any good attempts
at goal, Little Shannon seemed to get a touch on the ball, and it seemed to
roll in behind the line. And with that, there were only 15 seconds of play
left. Cue the whistle being blown and the 4th team ladies finally winning their
1st game, and thus being the start of the 4th teams winning streak!
