With
three losses in a row, the 2s came fired up to get their first win of the
season against WPCC B, but then we realised that Raff was our keeper for the
game. With our hopes taking a rather large knock we realised that Sparky wasn’t
playing today and Curly had returned from his honeymoon (Congrats lad!! However
stop complaining about back pains) this ensured we went into the game
optimistic. We showed our class early on and took firm control of the game.(Tosser - Deny always has had a firm grip) Vis
had a few shots (passes at best) at the WPCC before he finally converted and
gave Mutual the lead for the first time this season!
Mutual
continued to push forward with Pantene, Patches, Vis and Carl making a mockery
of the WPCC defence. With our strikers showing some good skills we won a shorty
and we decided on our banker, no not a drag but a zig zag #tellRaff,
which Pantene smashed into the net, with neither side being sure whether it was
a goal or not in true Mutual fashion we celebrated and ran back to the half
way. After some deliberation between the refs (and Raff getting on his knees
for Sven) the goal was awarded. 2 – 0 to Mutual. This is how the half ended
with Mutual in full control.
The
Green and Blue show continued in the second half. Our strikers were linking
wonderfully with Vis running the show and when he decided to not pass the ball
into the goals he grabbed his second of the game and Mutual’s third. At this
stage our defence failed and WPCC somehow grabbed a goal back. Patches decided
to repay the favour and scored a wounded rabbit from a shorty that had one leg
at best that the WPCC defence could only stare at and wonder how it limped its
way into the goals.
As
we continued to look for goals, our new youngster Carl managed to get himself
on the score sheet (deciding to actually shoot rather than dribble in the D).
We were home and away at 5 – 1 up, but not really. WPCC replied almost
instantly with a deflection goal and they got some wind in their sails. Their
right back also thought it was appropriate to start hitting people as Kraken,
who almost died a week or so ago, received a stick to the face which he got 5
stitches in the chin for (and he was at training on Monday #whatATrooper!). I
provided some entertainment as I somehow got into the D and proceed to miss
three platters in a row, not from three different plays, I literally had three
shots in 5 seconds and put all three into the keeper. I conveniently subbed
myself after this ordeal.
WPCC
sniffed a comeback and the Raff decided to show us how not to keep and WPCC
added another 2 soft goals to their tally. This lead to a very tense finish but
the Mutual defence managed to keep WPCC out of the D and it ended 5 – 4 to the
Green and Blue.
Result: Mutual 2s 5 – WPCC B 4
A
good win for the 2s and a much needed confidence boost, however we need to
ensure we hold onto 4 goal leads a little better #TooCloseForComfort.
