After our previous game the night before against the 4s, we were
in high spirits that Sunday against the Vikings. The game got on the way with
both teams playing some good hockey and some not so good hockey.
With good defence from the 6s’ back 4 the Vikings struggled to
get into the D and score, I don’t know why but there attack wasn’t doing well
at all, maybe some of them had a bevie or two to much the previous night. Our fitness
was a little problem at the front and in the links, with subs coming on every 5
min (We need to do more fitness). With 10 min to go before the half and the
score still 0-0 we managed to score a goal.
The Ginger ninja(Ronnie) got the ball 10m inside his own half and
managed to dribble through the Vikings defence and into the D and scored a very
good goal, goose crying it touched his foot but I didn’t see that and I was
next to him and also saying he was hacked to pieces and blaming bubbles for him
not playing to the whistle.
The game got on its way and the 6s started attacking the Vikings
D but their defence held us back. They got the ball and started putting some
passes together again, and they were in our D again, they managed to get a P
flick when the keeper was beaten and Ian stopped the ball with his arm. With
none of the Vikings players looking interested in taking the P Flick Speedbump
gave the ball to Dazz(so it was up to him to put the Vikings in the lead). With
the keeper ready Dazz took the flick. Not sure if you can call it a flick, it
looked more like he was trying to pop it over the keepers stick. The keeper
saved the goal and the score was still 1-0. ( I spoke with Alex after the game
and he said he was pretty worried, cause he had never seen a p-flick in a game
before, poor kid didn’t even know what to expect.)
The half ended. PS the
Vikings had like 5 short corners in the first half.
Half time score 1-0 for the 6s
The second half got on its way and both teams played some good
attacking hockey. The Vikings started putting some passes together but still
the 6s defence kept them back. The Vikings had about 6 short corners in the
second half but still couldn’t score any goals( They should really practise
their shorties and maybe change the variation somehow). The Vikings first goal
of the game came when one of the Vikings players smacked it into the D and it lifted
off of Ian’s stick to the middle of the D, Els rebounded it straight to Speedo.
He controlled the ball and slotted it into the box. (Speedo admitted that he
never even thought he could hit like that) The score 1-1.
The 6s stared putting some passes together and JuJu got the ball
in the D, he beat the defender(KFM) for the 23 time and scored our second goal.
The score was now 2-1 for the 6s. We started attacking more and more putting
the pressure onto the Vikings defence but they still kept us out of their D. We
had a few shots at goal but just couldn’t get that 3rd goal.
10 min
before the end of the game one of the Vikings wings dribbled the ball on the
base line into the D and managed to get the pass past the keeper where
Speedbump knocked it into the goals. With the score tied at 2-2 the game got
back on its way. The game ended on a draw but it was a good game between the 2
teams.
The Vikings had about 11 Shorties throughout the entire game but
couldn’t score. Hope they practise their short corners
