Date: 29 May
Venue: Mutual
Time: 18:30
Opponent: Mutual 4's
Ah yeah, the game almost every L5 player was looking forward to. After a bit of friendly banter via BBM status', Tuesday evening was upon us and we knew that based on performances so far, we should win this one and we would love to get a bonus point.
I respected that the 4's had a woman coach and therefore 'threw' the game of rock, paper, scissors so that the 4's could play in Mutual kit. Ok, I lost badly...
It also seemed as thought the support that had gathered were rooting the underdogs. That was cool with us. We had two new umpires in Tippex and Bubbles, so take before the game started was to leave the ladies alone and play to the whistle.
The whistle went and goal one came in the opening 5 minutes. I actually can't remember who scored because it happened so quickly...it was Slacker or PG.
After that, another field goal was scored and I think it was Slacker or PG on the end of it....
It was pretty evident that our pre-match talk of holding a high defensive line was working well as Mona and the other 4's forwards were starved of possession.
Goal three was from a shorty and this was scored by Scrat. She finished off after the 1st wave failed to clear the ball.
Another goal was put away before half time by Pikkie off another short corner. This was what we practiced so it was great to the shorty done correctly.
The half time break came and went with only one thing spoken about at half time...the bonus point goal.
We pressed hard in the second half to ensure the goal came. After an brilliant initial stick save low by Cameron, newly called up Aaminah was on hand to deal the final blow against her former team. Aaminah made no mistakes and finished off the second attempt at goal.
With the bonus point in the bag, we sat back to make sure we did not conceed a goal.
Final Score: Mutual 4's 0 - 5
Mutual 3's
Scorers: PG, Scrat, Pikkie, Slacker
and Aaminah
Talking points:
- we worked really well at a
team, especially passing around the back
- movement off the ball was
great and a pleasure to watch
Next one is a HUGE game v Somerset
West. We hope to have some more support down at Mutual.
