Opponents: Durbanville
Venue:
Mutual
Time: 13h30
Date: 19 May 2012
The
2s came into this game knowing they were gonna have a tough day against the
recently relegated Durabnville 1s. This was apparent from early on as
Durbanville showed their superiority and made several easy circle entries
before grabbing the opening goal of the game.
Mutual had a few half chances on
the other end but Durbanville continued to find their way into the circle with
ease (Bastick would know about that). Durbanville added two more soft goals
before Mutual could reply. Through a good counter, Ninja was put through one on
one with the keeper and slotted his finish, cool as a cucumber. WHAT!? Ninja
scored! Yes I know its unbelievable, but its clearly more believable than Piles
scoring #TellHim.
Even
with our hopes slight boosted through Ninja’s goal, Durbanville quickly crushed
those hopes and added a fourth. But low and behold Ninja had another
opportunity to score and everyone was going “lighting doesn’t strike twice” but
Ninja defied everyone and scored a delicate pop over the keeper to make it 4 –
2. This is how the half ended.
After
some motivational words at the break we came up fired up to attempt a comeback
however Durbanville were a couple steps ahead of us and added their 5th
of the game very quickly. From this point Durbanville began to push forward and
look to truly finish the game off. Mutual began to defend frantically and
utilise the counter attack.
This eventually paid off as Vis added a third for
the Green and Blue but once again Durbanville found a hole in our leaky defence
and added a 6th. There was still plenty of time left in the game and
Vis gave us some more belief as he added his 2nd and our 4th
to put the game into our reach. Then came the big moment after some debateable
keeping from Durbanville, Mutual were awarded a p-flick. Patches was nominated (Tosser - Coach fail - Just Saying) to take it......probably the most vital flick of his life so far.....which he
duffed and the keeper saved easily #Robben. This seemed to completely kill off
our hopes and the game ended 6 – 4 to Durbanville.
Result: Mutual 4 – 6 Durbanville
Our
defence is clearly our Achilles Heel and needs plenty of work for another tough
game against Pinelands A this coming weekend. (Tosser - Let me just state for the record, Stay away from the Thorough Bred 3s defence)
